“We want to say our Warriors are always good, whichever era.” Kamala Harris was loud and proud when she once again expressed her love for the Golden State franchise. The Vice President and Democratic nominee for the 2024 presidential election was on a podcast with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson. Wherein, she revealed that the sports discussions were very serious. And the reason is very simple, the Second Gentleman of the United States supports a different franchise.
“My husband and I have different teams.” After hearing the answer from Harris, Matt Barnes probed further and got to know about Douglas Emhoff’s sports roots. “He’s originally from Jersey but he moved to LA when he was a teenager so most of his fans are LA team. And so you know, depending on who’s playing who and what time of the year, it is very real, like really real, like talking some serious smack.”
When Emhoff himself appeared on the Rich Eisen show last month, he explained his love for sports. “Sports brings us together, period.” To really have an experience of that, he has traveled the world and the country to catch up on games. “I traveled to New Zealand for the Women’s World Cup, I went to the NBA All-Star uh game in Indianapolis. I was at the NCAA finals recently,” he explained.

But of course, that is not all.
On the same show, the 59-year-old would also go on to reveal that there was a special White House fantasy football league and also that he predicted a 13-4 season for his favorite LA Rams. That, however, isn’t working well in his favor currently as the team trails 1-3. As for the NBA and his love for LA, Emhoff explained that he hated the Boston Celtics. He has a story to corroborate.
He went to a sports bar for the recent NBA finals. And as per him, the support was for Beantown. However, due to his allegiance to the city of LA, he did not choose the Celtics. “I said I’m in DC mhm but I live in LA.” Similar to his long love for the franchises, Kamala Harris explained to Matt Barnes about the importance of the hooping team.
Matt Barnes and the previous Warriors era get their flowers from Kamala Harris
“Oh, it breaks my heart,” the Vice President was upset that the major teams of San Francisco had changed their home base. Previously, many teams played in the Oakland area, Harris’ hometown. “You know, you just drive by that area, when I go to Oakland… and just pass Colesium. It breaks my heart, and good good teams [have left Oakland].”

It’s true because, for the first time since 1959, Oakland is without representation in MLB, the NBA, or the AFL/NFL. The Warriors played in Oakland for nearly five decades, from 1971 to 2019. It was the time here, just about the final decade, that Kamala Harris believes is the most special.
“We want to say our Warriors are always good, whichever era,” Harris clarifies, but the ‘We Believe’ era was something else she admits. “But that was a very special time. I mean, it was electric.” The era witnessed Matt Barnes in a crucial role for the team as they also became just the third eight-seed team at the time to beat the number one team. The fan in the Vice President got to witness a bit of that run from the stands.
