It’s usually just a matter of time before rap battles originating from a beef turn ugly. And something similar has happened between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. Fans were earlier enjoying the rap battle, but a certain section of them now believes it is time for the two rappers to stop. One such person is former New York Knicks star and 3x NBA Sixth Man of the Year, Jamal Crawford.

Taking to his official account on X, Crawford admitted the rap battle between the two rappers to be epic but he believes now is the time to put an end to it. “That was the best rap battle EVER…but no more songs, it’s a different energy now..” the former NBA guard posted on X. And a majority of users under the 44-year-old’s post have agreed to this opinion. “Facts – we good now, this ain’t gotta get any filthier,” commented one user.

This comes after Kendrick Lamar’s recent diss track against Drake. Notably, the two rappers have been in a rap battle because of a beef between the two, which has resulted in six songs so far, 3 on each side. The last track by Drake, Family Matters, took shots at Lamar and his wife. After an hour later, Lamar too dropped his third diss track, Meet the Grahams. He alleged in the track that Drake has secretly got another child.

“You lied about your son, you lied about your daughter, huh, you lied about them other kids that’s out there hoping that you come,” read the lyrics to Kendrick Lamar’s last diss track. And it is after this that the fans and even stars like Jamal Crawford believe that this is the time for both the rappers to put an end to the beef before things get uglier.

A quick recap of the beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake

The roots of the feud between the two rapers are almost a decade old. However, the most recent sparks were ignited this year itself. Notably, in October 2023, J. Cole released First Person Shooter in collaboration with Drake, and the track mentioned Cole, Drake, and Lamar to be the ‘Big-3’ of the rap community. But it seems Kendrick Lamar wanted solitude, as in his song released in March 2024, he dismissed the Big-3 claim. In his song, Like That, with Metro Boomin and Future, he raps “motherf*ck the big three, n**a, it’s just big me”.

This prompted J. Cole to diss Lamar, and thus came the track 7 Minute Drill on April 5, which included warning shots at Lamar. However, J. Cole later apologized for the track against Lamar, stating “the world wanna see blood.” But it was Drake’s turn for a comeback at Lamar for “it’s just big me“. However, Drake’s song Push Ups was leaked online before the release date in April.

And thus began an exchange of diss tracks between the two rappers. And they benefitted too as their tracks made it to the top spots among the most listened songs. However, what happened with the release of Drake’s Family Matters and subsequently Lamar’s Meet the Grahams has left the fans concerned. Now it is to be seen how Drake responds to Lamar’s allegations of him having another child secretly.
