Kendrick Perkins is all set for the drama. It’s a long debate when it comes to deciding the best point guard. There are several names that come to mind. Two such are Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul. These two are the best players to have played in the position of point guards in NBA history. And that has always pushed the two as adversaries in the debates. Perkins is about to add more fuel to this debate as he called out that CP3 and Russell Westbrook shouldn’t be placed in the same tier of among the all-time greatest point guards! He has promised to explain his reasoning to the people.

For the latest segment of Road Trippin’ podcast, Perkins is excited to dissect his favorite debate of the best point guard involving Westbrook and Chris Paul with Richard Jefferson and Channing Fyre. Taking to his X account, the retired NBA player expressed his wish to discuss how the two players differ from each other in their roles as point guards.

The debate between the two has seemingly always intrigued Perkins. Back in 2021, during Westbrook’s challenging stint with the Lakers, his struggles with ball handling became a big issue in crucial games. During this turbulent period, Perkins didn’t hold back on First Take. Perkins suggested Westbrook should follow strategies similar to Chris Paul’s leadership for his team.

When he was asked about which player should be traded, he didn’t hesitate to name Westbrook. This criticism might not have sat well with the veteran player. As Perkins recalled he even apologized however, Westbrook reportedly never responded to his apology.

The ESPN analyst has always been the biggest supporter of Westbrook. Much later Perkins even mentioned that he is working to mend his relationship with his former teammate. While the situation caused him to change his views for a while, he is back to being a supporter. To be precise, Westbrook’s recent performance reminded Perkins of his true potential. Dragging Chris Paul and several more into the conversation, Perkins shared his declaration about the player.

After all, Westbrook has recently achieved a big feat! He has made the 203rd career triple-double of his career. He had 12 points, 11 rebounds, 16 assists and 3 steals in the matchup against the Golden State Warriors. Westbrook is an explosive athlete and  known for his relentless energy and record-breaking triple-doubles. And the ESPN analyst was thrilled and went on to declare the player as one of the top five point guards of all time.

Despite having criticized Russell’s triple doubles with the Lakers before in the past, Perkins seemed impressed this time. During the Road Trippin Podcast, he raved about the player and said, “Russell Westbrook is a top five point guard of all time. Don’t come talking to me about CP3…And the reason I bring up Russell Westbrook is what he did the other night, the triple-double against Golden State, reminded me of who this man is… You can’t name me another point guard that has had a better career, resume, than Russell Westbrook. ”

Not just Chris Paul but even Nikola Jokic seemingly got snubbed as Perkins praised Westbrook. Was this an attempt to fix their relationship with Westbrook. Well, considering the Nuggets star’s triple double feat, the claim isn’t wrong or much surprising!
