After a deserving MVP in 2014, Kevin Durant slowly started getting his flowers in the later years. However, the Phoenix Suns forward believes he was a “superstar” even before that too. KD’s explanation of the superstar tag is quite interesting as it does not speak about his game alone. The 2x champion thinks there is an influence, a personality, and a new other side when it comes to being a star that fans love. He believes that he delivered it in his earlier years, but the NBA buffs gave the credit only to a few like Derrick Rose, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant.
For starters, KD believes he has given it all only to entertain the fans. The Suns icon shared, “I really wanted to be a part of the NBA story… I wanted people to speak about me too. You know, they go speak about the LeBron’s, the D Rose’s at the time, the Kobe’s…When you talk about the league, you should speak about me too.” To achieve this, he tried to “show people more of my personality, my funnier side, my kitty side, or what I enjoyed about being in the NBA”. He thought this was what superstars were supposed to do. However, after a point, it became exhausting. After not getting his due credits, well, KD was done with it!

Not only that, but Kevin Durant also accepted the other side. The unloved, highly criticized, and the discredited side. All these years of disrespect pushed him to choose this side, and he did not have anything to complain about. In fact, he loves it.

Kevin Durant opted for the villain role, which he found competitive
KD has accepted it with an open hand. It has helped him prove to many that they are wrong. He shared in the interview, “I like my own space and I like doing what I’m doing without having any obligations.I like that better…I was just, that side was fun too. I had a good time and it built in and then there’s a foundation for a lot of what we’re doing now. But I just enjoy moving how I move right now.” The Slim Reaper wants to just go with the flow.
