The Lakers have found a new coach, and it’s not JJ Redick! Since parting ways with Darvin Ham, the Lakers have been on a quest to find a head coach. Despite having potential candidates enlisted for the post, including JJ Redick, the team did not find a perfect match. But, not anymore. The team is after Dan Hurley to take up the responsibilities of the franchise head coach.
Reportedly, the Lakers have already prepared a massive preliminary contract to attract the UConn men’s basketball team’s coach. Although this news was unveiled to the public all of a sudden, the Lakers had Hurley at the forefront from the beginning, even before their interview process commenced.
Moving on, there’s no official announcement made either by the Lakers or by Hurley himself. But Hurley, 51, is most likely to take up the offer by the Lakers, as he has often described his desire to explore a partnership with one of the world’s winningest basketball franchises. Above all, Hurley is liked by the Lakers’ stars too.

Lakers star player LeBron James is already impressed with Hurley. This is something he declared in his response to JJ Redick’s podcast, where he said, “He’s so damn good!!! Along with his staff. Super creative with their O! Love it.” But this is quite the opposite of what fans feel.
“Massive loss for UConn”: Fans’ expressed disapproval over Dan Hurley rumor
As the news got aired, almost everyone was drawn to it. But unexpectedly, the basketball world was not quite happy about Hurley leaving UConn for the Lakers. Even those who loved Dan Hurley remained against this decision. “Could never not love Danny Hurley, but as a UConn/Celtics fan, this would be a kick to the nuts,” penned a Twitter user.
UConn’s coach has been a vital reason for the Huskies’ back-to-back national titles. Not only this, but he has also led UConn to rank among the top 10 teams nationally in offensive and defensive efficiency. He is the major reason for turning the Huskies into a powerhouse, calculating 52-5 in the last 57 games played.
“Wow, that would be a massive loss for UConn,” said another fan. UConn, with Hurley, is on the verge of etching their name in historical records. If they add four more wins, they’ll be the first repeat national champions in the last 17 years. Fans didn’t end there; some even pointed out the available opportunities for UConn.
“And UConn already missed the window to get Doug Gottlieb,” added another fan, emphasizing the fact that the window for hiring a coach is already closed. Though Doug Gottlieb, being an analyst, would least likely take up UConn’s coach vacancy. Meanwhile, another fan added to the praise spotlight showering on UConn’s coach: “Amazing that people think Storrs, Connecticut is better than Los Angeles. This guy could be ‘movie star’ famous out there.”
