The Los Angeles Lakers are set to honor the late Kobe Bryant in a distinctive and heartfelt manner. The franchise will unveil the statue dedicated to Bryant at Star Plaza, outside Crypto.com Arena on February 8. The same day when the Lakers will be facing off against the Denver Nuggets. Adding to the hype, the Lakers organization has revealed that the team will don the special Mamba jerseys once again.

These jerseys are a special tribute to Bryant’s rookie season in 1996-97, featuring a unique black print. Notably, these jerseys were co-designed by Kobe Bryant himself. The attention to detail sees a special “LA 24” inscription on the belt, emphasizing Kobe’s connection to the city, and the numbers 8 and 24, his jersey numbers are hidden under each short’s flap. Witnessing the players in the Mamba jerseys again will be indeed a heartwarming moment of tribute to the champion.

As the Lakers come together to celebrate the legacy of their 5x NBA champion, they reiterate the impact Kobe Bryant had on the team, the sport, and the city of Los Angeles. During his playing days with the Lakers, the ‘Black Mamba’ created and broke numerous records. He is the youngest player ever to be selected by the NBA All-Star game, the leading scorer in Lakers’ franchise history and the only guard to make the jump from high school to the NBA. But most of all, what Kobe Bryant did in the Purple and Gold, was win.

Will the Lakers be able to repeat the magic with the Mamba Uniform?

The iconic Black Mamba jersey is a symbol of Bryant’s legendary 20-year stint with the Lakers, and his winning mentality. Back in 2018, the Lakers wore the jersey for the first time against the Chicago Bulls. They proceeded to beat the Bulls with 108-103.

More than the black and gold design aesthetics, these uniforms seem to exude magic. As if these are armors infused with ‘Mamba mentality’. Then again in the 2020 playoffs, the Lakers once again showcased their prowess in the Black Mamba attire. Following this, the team went on to earn its 17th title.
