Jayson Tatum is trending online for his bold comment. The All-Star weekend’s highlights remained divided between the spectacular display of talent and Tatum’s response to being eligible to become the face of the league. In just six years in his NBA career, the 5x NBA All-Star has amassed quite an impressive list of accolades. However, that doesn’t seem enough to convince fans. He received a lot of heat for his comment. Recently, Gilbert Arenas in his show, Gil’s Arena, once again picked up the debate. When asked about his opinion on the matter, Agent Zero shared a surprising revelation.

During the show, the retired NBA player clarified that he got the information from one of the General Managers that the Celtics writers have a role in impeding Tatum’s success. Arenas stated that’s because the writers don’t wish Boston Celtics veteran Larry Bird’s legacy to be forgotten. “Listen a general manager told me this it was from a general manager and said that it seems like Boston the writer usually the writers right like LA writers New York writers Boston writers right,” Arenas said.
“So Boston is like the third most popular team and they said they’re kind of like it seems like they’re protecting Larry Bird’s legacy so they do not push Tatum like they’re supposed to right? I mean, we’re talking about success, I mean as a young dude he’s had a lot of success, but they don’t push him,” said Arenas, commending the 2023 NBA MVP.

Tatum has played nearly 500 regular season games. Till now, he has already made 4 conference finals and one NBA final appearance. He has been selected to the All-NBA First Team twice. Does he need any more convincing? The 26-year-old player knows what he must do. During an interview with The Athletic‘s Jared Weiss, Tatum was once again asked about his comment and people’s reaction to it.
“I feel like it’s (being the face of the league) mine to take. I do feel like, if we win a championship, it would be more distinguished and clear. But I understand I’m in that shortlist for sure,” Tatum said.
