In a recent interview with GQ Sports revered sports agent David Falk discussed the demise of the NBA free agency. Falk was the mastermind behind Michael Jordan’s 15-year-long NBA career, making sure his client was always among the best paid players in the league along with lucrative sponsorship deals.

With the league’s restrictions, Falk believes that the teams and players like to play it safe. According to him, executives are quick to offload expensive contracts, while stars sign for as much as they can, knowing they can be traded later. All of this has made the free agency a dud with David stating that players no longer need agents. Explaining this to GQ, he stated, “I think that most players really don’t need agents today. Seventy percent of all the contracts are renegotiated. There are no negotiations.

Representing the likes of Fred VanVleet, Draymond Green, Jerami Grant, and Jordan Clarkson, Paul brokered the deals for all 4 men.

As Falk suggested, the deals for Fred VanVleet and Jerami Grant were predictable. The two finally signed their long-due super max contracts, earning them upward of $100 million. On the other hand, Draymond renegotiated with the Warriors settling on a max contract of $100 million. This validated Falk’s comments on deals not requiring negotiations, making his claims all the more credible.
