When a young athlete declares for the NBA draft, the talk isn’t usually about what a veteran player’s contract is going to look like. But not if you’re Bronny James declaring for the draft while LeBron James is still playing in the league. In his 21st year, the senior King is very much productive and someone the Lakers want to hold on to. But if you ask Kwame Brown, who’s had his fair share of animosity with James, some compromise is in order.

Like many analysts, Brown also claims James doesn’t care for his teammates and will throw someone under the bus to free up room for Bronny. Despite noting that the Lakers are in a “tough pickle,” he also claims the organization, media, and James himself are leaning into the narrative of, “LeBron can do no wrong.”

For context, ever since Bronny James declared for the 2024 NBA draft, many predict that LeBron is going to see his dream of playing on the same team as his son through. So either the Lakers pick Bronny to keep LeBron on the team or LeBron leaves for whichever team Bronny goes to. As simpleminded as many make it out to be, there’s a lot more to it, Brown points out.

Brown said that the James family is very keen on staying in LA. He cites the mega-mansion that is the family home and the billionaire athlete’s willingness to put up with California’s tax laws the way it is. With him very intent on staying in Los Angeles, Brown thinks LeBron will push for the Lakers to recruit Bronny.

Once the first overall pick of the NBA draft was picked by Michael Jordan, Kwame Brown’s career got him the dubious honor of being one of the biggest draft busts in NBA history. His take on draft picks isn’t highly regarded, but his rants about LeBron usually get attention. The last time he went on a heated rant, fans and analysts ripped into him. His latest opinion hasn’t caught attention yet, but it’s not the only one.

So Brown claims, “I would not be surprised if the Lakers trade up for a pick, do what they got to do, trade some of the squad. You know LeBron don’t like half the team.” He’s implying that James won’t care about potentially trading away winning pieces for the Lakers to free up cap space for Bronny.

But others also have a different scenario. They believe that James is most likely to take a massive pay cut to include his son. These are all, however, predictions and we’d only get a better picture closer to the draft.
