While the basketball world’s eyes were set on All-Star Weekend this Saturday night, Magic Johnson conveyed his best to his friend Michael Jordan on his birthday. As the 6x NBA champion turns 61 this year, it’s time to once again look back at the wonderful memories the legend gave us to cherish! Naturally, tons of birthday wishes were out-poured on social media for Jordan.

Joining millions on social media, the Los Angeles Lakers legend shared four nostalgic pictures of the two from different eras and wrote a touching note along with it. The post was captioned, “Wishing a happy birthday to my brother and the best basketball player that’s ever played the game, Michael Jordan! I have so much love and respect for you, and I pray God blesses you with many more!” 

The duo faced each other once in 1991 when the Chicago Bulls ultimately defeated the Lakers to claim the championship. Jordan was also named the MVP in the finals. The two basketball greats joined forces in the historic 1992 Olympic Games as part of the revered “Dream Team.”

Was there any rivalry between Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan?

Despite fans anticipating a fierce rivalry between these titans, Johnson once revealed in an interview that their partnership was more about mutual respect rather than competition. “I didn’t have the chance to hate Michael, but we’re good friends. I love MJ and what he stands for, for what he’s built, not only on the court but off the court. His business, so it’s great,” said the 3x NBA MVP.

Fast forward to 2024, and fans are even blessed with snaps of Johnson and Jordan enjoying dinner together. The two were spotted together at Johnson’s annual summer vacation across Europe last year. Following that, we get to see another heartwarming message from the star.

Looking back at the memories of Michael Jordan creating history on the court, fans also poured their heart-touching wishes on X. One of the fans wrote, “Happy Birthday to the GOAT @Jumpman23 Michael Jordan turned 61 today! Thanks for the memories. You paved the way for everyone playing. #EddieOnEdge #Jordan #HappyBirthday.”
