NBA icon Magic Johnson and his wife, Cookie, are the coolest grandparents—no wonder their granddaughter Gigi dressed as the Los Angeles Lakers legend for Halloween last year. Magic and Cookie are grandparents to the kids of the 5x NBA champion’s eldest son, Andre. After hosting a full family vacation last summer, the couple made sure not to miss out on their youngest grandkid’s elementary school graduation yesterday.

Magic’s wife didn’t disappoint and generously shared pictures and clips of the event with her fans. Andre, his wife Lisa, and daughter Gigi were also seen celebrating Avery’s big day together. Cookie also shared a cute congratulatory message for the little MVP.

Congratulations to our grandson Avery on his six grade promotion. He is so smart and talented and we couldn’t be prouder of him. We cannot wait to see all that he will do next. We love you so much Avery!!” Johnson wrote.

The first slide has a picture of the famous couple posing alongside their family present at the school. The fourth slide also has a video of Avery receiving his promotion certificate on stage. Avery’s father, Andre, is Magic and his ex-girlfriend, Melissa Mitchell’s only child. While his half-siblings, EJ and Elisa, couldn’t make it to the ceremony, their parents did. And it is not surprising considering the family spends a lot of time together and both Gigi and Avery are big fans of their granddad.

Magic Johnson is a hero to his grandkids

None of Johnson’s three kids are as inspired by him as his grandkids. Gigi wore the iconic No.32 Lakers jersey and dressed like her ‘Pop Pop’ Magic for Halloween last year. She paired it with white sneakers and a purple necklace. Sharing a picture of Gigi, dressed as his old self, on his Instagram, Johnson wrote, “My granddaughter wanted to dress up as pop pop this year and she did a heck of a job.” Johnson has also diligently written a lovely message every year to celebrate Gigi’s birthday.

Andre’s family also often joins the Johnson couple for European vacations. “Cookie and I are excited to have our kids Andre, EJ, Elisa, our daughter-in-law Lisa, and grandkids Gigi and Avery join us on the yacht!” the Washington Commanders’ part-owner captioned his post featuring pictures of their trip around Europe last summer.

Andre shares the same passion for business as his father. After gaining experience working in his father’s investment company, Magic Johnson Enterprises, he joined SimWin Sports as an executive vice president. He also had a podcast with Mike Dupree. Andre has been with his wife Lisa since 2010. Magic’s other two kids, EJ Johnson III and Elisa Johnson are in the fashion business.

No matter how tough and hectic the schedule gets for the $1.2 billion worth athlete-cum-businessman, he has always remembered to celebrate special moments with his family. And that’s what the fans always appreciate about him.
