As LeBron James has aged and become more of a distributor, many have compared his playstyle to that of Magic Johnson. It was perhaps this comparison on Johnson’s mind when he convinced James to sign with the Purple and Gold in 2018. Though Magic has moved away from his position in the Lakers front office, he continues to watch The King put on a show in Los Angeles. Yesterday however, Magic Johnson was joined by a pair of his ‘Showtime Lakers’. The 64-year-old was in town to watch a rematch of the 2020 NBA Finals, with his former Head Coach, Pat Riley clamoring for his former team to lose.

Fortunately, before the showdown, the teammates and their former coach spent some quality time together, nearly 40 years after winning championships together. Magic Johnson shared an image with him, Pat Riley, Byron Scott and Kurt Rambis. Sharing the post on his Instagram, he wrote, “Me and my Showtime Laker teammates Byron Scott and Kurt Rambis had dinner with our Showtime Laker Hall of Fame Coach Pat Riley before the game tonight!” He further added, “A big thank you to Lon Rosen and Linda Rambis for bringing us together!”

This rendezvous was special for not just the legends but the fans as well. Fans were also reminded of the historic time Lakers had in the ’70s and ’80s. Both Scott and Rambis were Johnson’s teammates as they collectively led the Lakers to championships in 1985, 1987, and 1988. Reminiscing the legends’ playing days with the Lakers, one of the fans wrote, “Best Era in NBA history, Basketball was so great to watch then! Magic you will always be my hero no matter how old I am!”

Despite the heartwarming moments, it was probably Pat Riley who had the best night of them all. After all, his side comfortably took care of the Lakers.

The legends’ reunion was just moments before the Lakers’ disappointing defeat. In a faceoff against the Miami Heat, LeBron’s 12 points and Davis’ 29 points couldn’t stop Pat Riley’s franchise as the game ended 110-96.

Tyler Herro led the Heat’s charge with an impressive 21-point performance, while Duncan Robinson’s sharpshooting prowess shone in the fourth quarter, contributing 11 of his 13 points during the crucial period. Bam Adebayo contributed 15 points in their win.
