This was the perfect time for former Memphis Grizzlies star Matt Barnes to revisit his childhood. Family comes first for the 43-year-old and his mother tops the list always for shaping his career. It has been over 16 years since Ann Barnes died, and her son shared a wholesome throwback picture in honor of her birthday. Well, this will be a day to remember for Barnes, as it is not just his mother’s birthday, but also a special day in his sister’s life.
Barnes shared an old picture of him, his sister Danielle Barnes, his brother James Barnes, and his mother Ann sitting by a pool having a pleasant time. He wrote in the captions, “Happy Heavenly Birthday to my Mom, it’s been 16yrs but it feels like yesterday“. He added, “And Congratulations to my little sister @_danni_barnes for getting baptized today…Very special moment, glad I was able to be a part of it…Out w the old bullshit & in comes the new blessings & beginnings. Love you.”

Ann Barnes passed away on 27 November 2007. She was a cancer patient and the deadly disease took her life too early, which was devastating for the Barnes crew. The NBA champion has done a lot in honor of his family, but the famous movement he started to support his mother is unmatched.

This was a movement that was started by Barnes with a motive to support Ann Barnes. Anyhow, it has turned into a bigger responsibility now. The ‘Athletes vs Cancer‘ is a non-profit organization that aims at making the lives of cancer survivors and families affected by it better. Barnes shared the idea behind this motive, “I started ‘Athletes vs Cancer’ as a way to honor my mother, but now giving back has become a part of who I am, and more importantly, this is a key value I hope to pass on to my own sons.”
