Back in the ‘80s, what started as a risky partnership between a rising basketball star and a sneaker brand turned into an empire that’s still booming today. Yes, we’re talking about Michael Jordan and Nike. Four decades later, that bond is unbreakable—so much so that MJ can’t even tolerate someone rocking a different logo under his roof. Just ask rapper Bow Wow, aka Shad Moss. On a recent Club Shay Shay episode, he shared a wild encounter from his younger days involving a pair of rebellious sneakers that didn’t survive the morning.

The conversation got more entertaining when Bow Wow walked Shannon Sharpe through the details. “I wore Reeboks to the house. I wore some Iversons. That was my guy. Right. After Marcus’ dad retired, A.I. was my man,” he explained. At the time, he was crashing at Marcus Jordan’s place and had just woken up when MJ himself walked in. What came next was straight out of a strict dad’s playbook.

Bow Wow recalled, “I just see that door crack open like a father, like a real dad. Hey, who b——— these?… I’m on the floor asleep. I’m like, huh? He like, these yours, Bow? I’m like, yeah. St’s going in the trash.” The shoes vanished, never to be seen again. To make it even funnier, he added, “That was my introduction. Anytime he sees me, it’s: ‘Short s—. When are you going to grow some inches? You’re still short as s—.”

As the clip started gaining traction online, Marcus Jordan himself couldn’t help but chime in. Sharing the video on his Instagram story, he wrote, “Facts 💯 Imao 🤣.”

But this wasn’t the first time MJ’s kids shared these strict sneaker stories. On The Breakfast Club, all three—Jeffrey, Jasmine, and Marcus—quickly shot down the idea of ever wearing anything besides Jordans growing up. To top it off, Jasmine even confessed that she wasn’t allowed to wear light-up Skechers as a 7-year-old.

It’s more than just business with Jordan and Nike. It’s a really deep connection, almost like a part of who he became as he rose to the top. This kind of loyalty shows how strong that athlete-brand bond can be, especially when it’s tied to winning and big cultural moments.

And when DJ Envy asked about guests wearing rival brands, Marcus couldn’t resist dropping the gem: “I was good friends, we were good friends with Bow Wow. When we were younger, he would come wearing Converse, he was doing the Like Mike stuff.” Clearly, the rules in the Jordan household weren’t just guidelines—they were gospel. But MJ didn’t stop here.

Michael Jordan keeps throwing shade at non-Nike sneakers

So just when you thought Bow Wow’s Iverson story was wild, along comes George Lopez with an equally hilarious tale that proves one thing—Michael Jordan isn’t just loyal to Nike, he’s obsessed. Decades after Nike made that $250,000 gamble on a young MJ—a move that completely reshaped sneaker culture—Jordan is still calling out anyone who dares step into his space rocking anything that doesn’t have a Swoosh. This time, it wasn’t a rapper. It was a 63-year-old comedian just trying to enjoy a golf match.

Now, according to Lopez, things were going smoothly at MJ’s golf event. “You know, we were in there and there’s probably like 20 guys and MJ’s right there,” he said, setting the scene. He didn’t think anything was off. After all, it’s not every day you get to hang out with His Airness, sip drinks, and swap jokes. “We’re drinking, laughing, gets up, and he goes, ‘Hey, George, you come back anytime, man, my place is your place,’” Lopez remembered fondly.

But just when it seemed like Jordan was done playing host, he noticed something that stopped the party cold. “Then he looks at, uh, Brian. He looks at his shoes, m———– wearing Pumas. And Michael Jordan goes, ‘You know, we sell Nikes in the pro shop.’” Classic MJ. And he wasn’t done.

Then came the finishing move. “I know those s— are hurting your feet. Let me see that. I know those s–t are hurting your feet. We got Jordans in the pro shop,” Jordan joked, leaving everyone cracking up. Lopez could only laugh and admit: “It was the mother F—— Jumpman himself.”

Honestly, this isn’t even new for MJ. Remember the ’92 Olympics? He straight-up covered the Reebok logo with an American flag. Because to him, there’s only one brand that counts.

Even now, years after he stopped playing, Jordan’s influence on sneaker culture is still huge. Everything he did, on and off the court, keeps the Jordan brand powerful and desirable for fans and athletes of all ages. It’s a legacy built on being the best, having style, and always pushing for excellence.
