It’s not every day that five big names of the sports world get together to create one of the most powerful brands. The idea for the same was hatched in the summer of 2016. Michael Jordan had a dinner meeting with his five important colleagues – Wes Edens, Jeanie Buss, Wyc Grousbeck, and his wife Emilia Fazzalari. All of them were in New York to attend the NBA owners’ meeting. However, being an NBA team owner was among the many common things about the business moguls. Another point of similarity they had was a healthy obsession with Tequila. Pasquale Jones, the place of their meeting, didn’t serve the drink yet the owners ultimately ended up discussing their choice of Tequila and bonding over it.

A high-profile meeting as it was, one thing is sure, this was the place where the idea of the brand was born. Even the name is an homage to the five owners of the brand. Here is more about the co-owners and a new sports personality who recently joined the roster.

Jeanie Buss and Wes Edens

During Wes Edens’ tenure as the co-owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, the team won a championship in 2021. A feat that has eluded Michael Jordan as an owner. Edens, a billionaire, is also the co-founder of Fortress Investment Group and the founder of New Fortress Energy. Edens and his wife Lynn Edens celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in 2019. The couple shares four children, Ryan, Madison, Mallory, and Quentin. Their daughter Mallory was also rumored to date the Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The second member of the group is Jeanie Marie Buss. She has previously worked as a general manager of the Los Angeles Strings professional tennis team. She also owns stakes in the Los Angeles Blades professional roller hockey team. Buss took various roles for the Los Angeles Lakers before gaining ownership. She is the first female controlling owner to win an NBA championship in 2020 and five more as an executive. Apart from her family business, she is also involved in other businesses such as the Tequila Brand Cincoro.
