When it came to crashing the boards, was there anyone better than Dennis Rodman? He won seven straight rebounding titles from 1992 to 1998! This helped him make the All-Defensive First Team seven times, which is the third-best in league history. So is it surprising that Michael Jordan‘s oldest son, Jeffrey Jordan, was in awe of a particular Dennis Rodman stat?

Recently, ‘Sports Center’ shared some statistics about Rodman during his time with the San Antonio Spurs. Over a stretch of two games in 1993, the Hall of Famer racked up 49 rebounds and scored no points. A lot of fans could not believe their eyes when they saw this. Jeffrey Jordan was astonished as well and commented,“🐐”.

That was a fitting comment for the 2x Defensive Player of the Year award winner. Notably, NBA legend Kevin Garnett also showed his love for the same post. “RIGHT…Shout to the worm!” he wrote on his Instagram story.

Even though Rodman’s defensive prowess came with a lack of scoring, he wasn’t worried. The Worm knew his role in the team and perfected it. His coaches and teammates were not bothered about it as well. Well, they were most worried about his unpredictable antics on and off the court, but not his offense. This allowed the 5x NBA champion to go out there and do his job. And he did just that!

The post also had a video clip from ‘The Last Dance’ when Rodman talked about how he mastered the art of rebounding by anticipating and practicing.

Dennis Rodman and his art of rebounding created history!

‘Dennis the Menace’ once explained the secret behind his incredible ability to rebound during an episode of ‘The Last Dance’ docuseries. “I just practiced a lot about the angle of the ball and the trajectory of it,” Rodman said. “Basically, I just started learning how to put myself in a position to get the ball.”

However, he did not stop there. He also studied how his opponents and teammates shot the basketball to have a better chance of getting the board. “You got a Larry Bird; it’s gonna spin,” he said. “You got a Magic [Johnson]; there may be spin. When [Jordan] shoots over here, I position myself right there.”

And it worked wonders! Rodman has the most 20+ rebound games in the history of the NBA with 158 as per ‘StatMuse’. The second-placed Andre Drummond is way behind ‘The Worm’ with 90 20+ rebound games. Even star centers who were known for their defense, like Dikembe Mutombo (52 20+ rebound games) and Ben Wallace (42 20+ rebound games) couldn’t come close. That was how dominant Dennis was!

One take at a time

My strong passion for basketball started when I was ten after watching an NBA commercial on TV. I began tuning into games for inspiration and to learn from the best. So I have been closely following the league for more than a decade now.
