Notably, almost every Air Jordan sneaker has some sort of story behind it. The most recent in discussion is how Michael Jordan inspired the $141 billion brand’s Black Cat sneakers.

This came from Dwyane Wade during an appearance on an episode of his own podcast. “It’s a long history of Michael Jordan, but, yeah, I mean, this was a nickname that he got, right, that he was given, you know, around the league. He’s a black dude, had yellow cat eyes… but he was… a sneak up boy… was fast.. was explosive… was all the things that black cat is,” Wade said on ‘The Wine Down With Dwyane Wade‘ podcast. 

Notably, Michael Jordan’s yellow eyes have grabbed a lot of attention ever since ‘The Last Dance’ came out. People could observe Jordan’s eyes up close in the docu-series. And since then, there have been numerous speculations about the reason for his eyes being yellow.

Some fans believe the yellow eyes could be because of excessive cigars and alcohol consumption. Meanwhile, there are some who speculate that this could be because of some serious liver problem. And these speculations have left fans concerned for the well-being of His Airness.

However, there is still something iconic about this whole scenario of a concerning situation. And that is how Michael Jordan, even in this scenario, became an inspiration for something like the Black Cat. And sneakers of this colorway, which started more than a decade ago, still continue to be relevant. In fact, there is already a Black Cat themed Air Jordan sneaker that is in the slots for release.

The upcoming Air Jordan 5 ‘Black Cat’

According to previous reports by Jordan Brand insider ‘zsneakerheadz’, Nike had scheduled the release of the AJ5 Black Cat for the Holiday 2024 season. However, the latest reports have revealed that the sneakers are no longer scheduled for release on the calendar. But there are speculations that the brand will soon come up with a new release date.
