Dwyane Wade admires and idolized his father

The 13x NBA All-Star is all set to get inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame this weekend. Ahead of the honor, the 41-year-old has been seen indulging in several commemorative events and parties. He made an appearance on The Dan LeBatard Show ahead of his induction ceremony, and he sand praises for his father.

The Flash fondly stated how he admired his father and his relationship with him. He said, “I had a great father you know. A lot of people don’t hear about my dad and my story, which we will get to a little bit more in the Hall of Fame, but my dad was really an amazing example for me.”

He continued, “Growing up, you know, I watched a man be a man. He took custody of me at nine years old when my mom was going through her troubles and really stepped in as a man and so I gave a lot of credit to my father for a lot of the ways I think about, you know, how to be a leader and how to be a parent.”

Discussing his heart-breaking story, the 13-time NBA All-Star also revealed how his mother, Jolinda, suffered from drug addiction.

Dwyane Wade’s struggles during his childhood

Wade in his book, ‘A Father First’, had opened up about his mother’s struggles. He shared that as a young boy, his only concern was his mother’s and sister’s safety. Nevertheless, the mother-son duo shared a deep relationship.

He also stated how, despite issues with addiction, his mother would always prioritize her two children before anything. She has always felt guilty about the tough circumstances. Wade’s mother loved and cared about her children. Even when she was grappling with her personal issues, she ensured that her children were safe.
