The most high-flying part of NBA’s All-Star Weekend, the Slam Dunk contest is here. As promised, we got to witness some of the most creative and captivating dunks. However, 4x NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal will always be one of the intriguing parts of the event. This year, some of the NBA stars have used the Big Diesel to add some flair to their performance. Here is a brief look at some of the iconic dunks involving Shaq from the present as well as the past.

First on the list is the crowned champion of the 2024 Slam Dunk contest. The NBA G League player Mac McClung, secured his second Slam Dunk contest title as he earned a perfect 50 by soaring over the Los Angeles Lakers legend for a jaw-dropping two-handed reverse dunk. Furthermore, he even had O’Neal wear a jersey from his high school, Gate City in southwest Virginia.

While McClung claimed the spotlight, another standout performer was Miami Heat rookie player Jaime Jaquez Jr. Known for his thunderous dunks, Jaime showcased his prowess in the contest with a remarkable first dunk over O’Neal. Dunking over Shaquille O’Neal is no small feat, but it seems to be a winning formula for those eyeing the Dunk Contest title. Let’s take a look at the basketball stars from the past who achieved similar heights.

Hamidou Diallo claimed the 2019 Slam Dunk contest

The 2019 NBA All-Star Weekend witnessed Oklahoma Thunder’s Hamidou Diallo claim victory with a jaw-dropping dunk over the 7-foot icon. His sheer athleticism shone through as he finished it by paying homage to Vince Carter’s legendary dunk from 2000. Diallo recreated it as he hung from the rim with his elbow.

Treading a little more far in the past in 2014, we saw Ben McLemore’s leap over Shaq in a throne for a one-handed jam. The dunk itself was a classic but the entry, featuring the towering O’Neal taking the regal was even more interesting. All in all, it seems that the Big Diesel is insurmountable for most of the NBA. Last year, the 2000 MVP said only 3 players dunked on him during his NBA career. And only 4 have dunked over Shaquille O’Neal during the All-Star dunk contests.
