The basketball world often engages in debates over who’d be the superior athlete while comparing two people. While most of it is done by fans in barbershop debates or on social media, some veterans also like to step onto the field now and then. Recently, Jeff Teague sent a response to Rashad McCants after the 39-year-old made a tall claim.

McCants said that he could guard Brandon Jennings. Although this could’ve been seen as an audacious claim by a competitive athlete, the claim was picked up in discussions.

Jeff Teague’s response to Rashad McCants

Teague brought it up on the Club 520 Podcast. He said, “Rashad McCants said he could guard Brandon Jennings. I wanted to say something about that”.

As per him, Jennings would have fried him on the court, doubling down on his praise for him by saying that he was just a superior athlete when compared to McCants. He said, “In an NBA game. Brandon Jennings would’ve fried Rashad”. Teague was speaking from experience because he got to face the 6’1 point guard as a rookie.

He recalled, “I remember my rookie year…We played them in the playoffs, he was playing for the Bucks and he was torturing Bibby and them. Like he was cookin’. We thought we was gonna lose the series, we ended up winning.” Reflecting on one of the plays he witnessed from Jennings, he said, “He was on a fast break. He went behind his back, by Bibby, and laid it in and he ran by the bench and he was like “You better get in”. Then Jennings went on to say some NSFW things to the bench, basically challenging them to try and stop him.

Teague said that he wasn’t even in the game and after he saw what Jennings did, he didn’t even want to step onto the court to challenge him. McCants had claimed that he’ll be able to guard Jennings on an episode of the Gil’s Arena podcast. The two even got into a heated argument over the subject and it ended with Jenning saying “I’m just better than you” to his face.

After the episode aired, McCants posted the clip on his X account with the caption, “I’ll shut that water off like section 80 plumbers in the winter time!!! You see how I subtly shifted my position to a defensive stance lol, and he immediately retreated lol”. He even asked “CAN @brandonjennings GUARD ME THO?” which was answered by the ex-Milwaukee Bucks star. “Yes, I can guard you lol”, he responded.
