Hansbrough and Redick’s rivalry is from 2005 to 2006. So when the alumnus of North Carolina was asked about Mount Rushmore’s annoying Duke University players, he didn’t hesitate to take Redick’s name first.

Oh, so my top three let’s see here. Uh I mean JJ Redick just because he was so good for sure. And so many people hated him in college. Uh He kind of egged it on a little bit. I would put him up there.” So many years later, Hansbrough finds Redick most annoying, because of his play style.

Uh Then you got to go with Christian Leitner. Seems like he’s just as you know, the, you know, the poster boy for Duke. You know, you could say like Grace and Allen uh because of his tripping, he was very Duke-esque. Greg Paulus, you know, for me, Gerald Henderson probably up there,  But uh yeah, those would be all my do guys up there.

How Redick’s night was ruined in 2005-06

It was the last time Redick was facing North Carolina as he was preparing for NBA the next season. He wanted to end the night on a high yet Hansbrough and his team had other plans. The 2005-2006 season expectations were in the middle for UNC so them achieving anything positive was an underdog story. Redick started the night strongly but later failed to capitalize. UNC thanks to their defense could stay in the game for a longer period. Tyler Hansbrough’s game-high, 27 points ultimately proved to be the difference maker.

Later in his career in an interview with ACC Network, Hansbrough said it was one of his best nights.

“Yes, there is, I would say my freshman year when we went to Cameron, and we won on their senior night. It was special because before the season, many people wrote us off and didn’t expect much from us, and I know Duke was a powerhouse that year; they had JJ Reddick and Shelden. I’m not sure what they were ranked, but they were ranked among the top teams in the country, and not many people thought we were going to accomplish something. My freshman year, I felt like we were a team that had a chip on our shoulder and wanted to prove a lot of things. We went there and won on their court, and it was a special moment and probably one of my favorite wins besides the national championship in my career at Carolina.”
