The NBA world is busy placing their bets on Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu ahead of their historic 3-point battle. Both of them have been almost equally backed to win on Saturday night. But when Detroit Pistons icon Isiah Thomas was asked to choose one, he went out of the box. Well, he did choose the Golden State Warriors guard to win this battle. However, he believes there is a better shooter than Curry and Ionescu at the moment.

The NCAA Women’s highest scorer and Iowa Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark is someone who Thomas has his eyes on. The 2x champion shared, “Neither one of them are the greatest shooters, because right now that Caitlin Clark, that’s who I wanna see… Put 22 from Iowa in this competition…She takes the throne.”

That’s a strong prediction from the Pistons great. Clark’s heroic performance yesterday could be the reason behind it. The 22-year-old rewrote NCAA history books last night by becoming the all-time leading scorer in women’s D1 basketball. Also, she did this in style. Clark dropped a career-high 49 points, along with 13 assists and 5 rebounds.

Notably, she hit 9 three-pointers with an impressive 50% field goal. This might be the reason behind Thomas’ strong backing. Clark now stands with total career points of 3569, and the season hasn’t finished yet.

Is Clark vs Curry a possibility next year? Is the NCAA superstar’s strong shooting a factor?

No one in the league expected a Sabrina Ionescu Vs Steph Curry contest. The NBA wants to promise only entertainment at this point. Ionescu scored 37 points in the WNBA’s 3-point contest last year, the highest in NBA and WNBA history, and Adam Silver decided to bring her in. And the same seems very possible for Clark now.

Clark is destined to be selected as the Number 1 overall pick by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft in April. So, there is a high chance that we might witness another historic battle like the one we are about to witness, between Curry and Clark, or Ionescu and Clark.

However, this depends on how this year’s three-point battle goes. So far, it has garnered an unbelievable amount of attention. Also, Ionescu announced that she would be shooting from the “men’s line” to give Curry a fair competition. Hopefully, this most-awaited battle delivers the hype it promises.
