If you are inquisitive about the behind-the-scenes of the NBA, you are in for a treat. The popular streaming network, Netflix, is all set to come up with its 10-part sports series. The series will reportedly explore on and off-court scenes of the 2023-24 season from the perspective of 5 iconic players. And thus the name for the series — Starting 5. The official IG account for Netflix recently shared a teaser of the upcoming series. And Michael Jordan‘s youngest son, for one, is really excited about it.
His comment made it clear that, after 4 years of The Last Dance’s release, Marcus once again has a different sports series on his watchlist. “Finally some LEAGUE content,” he commented on the post.
The teaser features the 5 players who will be starring in the series. This includes LA Lakers’ LeBron James, Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum, Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards, Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler and Sacramento Kings’ Domantas Sabonis.

The teaser video starts with Jayson Tatum forming an IG group chat by the series’ namesake. The first message he drops in the group? “Last season was a movie! Y’all ready to run it back in October?” Just as all the other players respond affirmatively in the chat, Tatum adds Netflix to the group, thus bringing up the series’ poster.

While Netflix already had some impressive content in the sports category (genre), it seems the platform has focused on expanding in the area. Especially after the success of Michael Jordan’s The Last Dance. Even in 2023, the docuseries got 5.6 million views on Netflix, as per FlixPatrol. No wonder that the streaming platform has been coming up with ventures like Netflix Slam and The Netflix Cup. While there is much more to come up in the category, the Starting 5 seems to be the earliest one.

While we already know Tatum will emerge as the season champion in the series, there is more to the series. As mentioned earlier, Starting 5 will explore through on and off court struggles and battles of all the five athletes starring in it.
“James exerts himself harder than ever to stay healthy — and dominant — in his 21st season, while Edwards electrifies with his rapid rise. Butler’s relentless drive propels the Heat, Sabonis anchors the Kings with his versatile play, and Tatum leads the Celtics in their quest for a record 18th championship,” read the synopsis.
The production team for the series involves some interesting names, including LeBron James’ Uninterrupted in association with Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions and former NFL star Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions. Directed by Susan Ansman, Trishtan Williams, and Peter J. Scalettar, the Starting 5 releases on October 9.
