NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal and NFL legend Deion Sanders have shown respect for each other on multiple occasions. Notably, Shaq is a huge fan of the Cowboys and wanted Sanders to take the head coach role of his boyhood team. Interestingly, the four-time NBA champion has also backed some controversial statements of Sanders in the past as well. Now, the Los Angeles Lakers legend has again given a shout-out to the two-time Super Bowl champion’s recent speech.

Sanders caused major controversy when he stated that he makes sure he recruits his quarterbacks from a dual-parent home. While this was met with a huge backlash, O’Neal supported the take.

Deion Sanders’ speech about being a perfect father

Deion Sanders has been married twice. His relationship with his second wife, Pilar Biggers-Sanders, came to an end in 2015. After the messy divorce, Sanders was ordered to pay $10,500 per month in child support which makes it over $100,000 every year.

Sanders has three children with Pilar and two with Carolyn Chambers, his first wife. ‘Prime Time’ recently talked about being a father while motivating his Colorado Buffaloes team.

The head coach questioned his players whether they are doing the things that are necessary to be who they want to be. He asked whether they are doing what is expected of them even when they are not monitored. Sanders reminded them that there are many who would do anything to be in the players’ position.

He said, “I don’t claim to be ‘The perfect father’. But I claim to be a father that was always present. I rather be present than perfect. Because only if I’m present, I got a chance. I got a chance. Some of y’all are here, but you ain’t here.” He added, “Some y’all in uniform, but you ain’t practicing. Some of y’all talking the talk, but you ain’t really walking the walk.”

Shaquille O’Neal backed Deion Sanders’ strategy

Deion Sanders talked about recruitment strategy as a head coach a few months back. He caused an upsurge when the coach revealed that he prefers his quarterbacks from a dual-parent home.

When Shaquille O’Neal was asked about it during his podcast, he backed Sanders’ opinion. Even though his co-hosts were baffled by O’Neal’s reaction, he stood his ground. Shaq recounted his mother’s struggle before marrying his stepfather, Sergeant Phillip A. Harrison. He then noted the impact of Harrison and added he helped him succeed.
