D-Wade admitted to not having a fashion sense when he joined the league. But in 2005, then-commissioner David Stern made a decision that would force that to change. Stern enforced a business casual look that made players wear ties, coats, and glasses over sweatpants, jerseys, and chains. While there was resistance, the players found a way to make it fun.

In typical competitive fashion, Dwyane Wade and others began flexing their Armani and Valentino suits. But the desire to one-up his teammates’ style has led the Miami Heat legend to an entirely new avenue of work post-retirement. Apart from being a style ambassador, Wade is hilariously taking up a more ‘hands-on’ role in the fashion industry.

While in Italy for Milan Fashion Week, D-Wade dropped by the famed offices of Donatella Versace.

The Heat legend was soon asked what needed to be done in order to handle the budget. Without giving a second thought, he came back with a quick reply. “Don’t worry about the budget! We good,” Wade added, as the crowd laughed.

One of the most hilarious and heartwarming moments occurred when Wade took up the duty of a support staff member, handling the phones at the reception desk. Sitting alongside him was his wife, Gabrielle Union. Wade working as an unpaid intern is not the first time that the NBA champion has been associated with the billion-dollar brand.

Wade has always been open about his love for the Italian fashion brand. He went on to adorn one of their red suits during his prestigious Hall of Fame ceremony last month.

In January of this year, Versace launched a new campaign to promote its eyewear apparel. Wade was amongst the few people selected to put the newly launched glasses to the test. Most of his campaign pictures were taken by famed photographer Mario Sorrenti. Wade himself took to social media to highlight his new partnership.

Whilst adorning a pair of transparent glasses, the Miami icon stated that they really made him look smart. “Cool” is all Wade could say at the end.
