In a moment etched in NBA Playoff lore, the dying embers of Game 4 ignited into pure chaos. With fractions of a second remaining, it wasn’t the expected hero, Nikola Jokic, but Aaron Gordon who delivered an unprecedented game-winning, buzzer-beating dunk – the first of its kind in playoff history during the play-by-play era. This improbable play, securing a dramatic 101-99 victory and leveling the series against the Clippers at 2-2, sent shockwaves through the arena and across social media, captivating even legends like Magic Johnson and Dwyane Wade.

In this crucial time for the Nuggets, it wasn’t Nikola Jokic‘s clutch shot but another player who stole the spotlight. Former NBA players Magic Johnson and Dwyane Wade were quick to take it to social media.

Game 4 has served one of the most intense moments despite the immense tension. The Denver Nuggets comfortably had a double-digit advantage heading into the fourth quarter. The Nuggets seemed firmly in control until the Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard made a dramatic rally along with Norman Powell to lead in the last minutes of the game. That meant trouble for the Nuggets.

The team had help from Gordon, who quickly took the ball and dunked a fiery shot, helping the Nuggets clinch a win. Taking to social media, Johnson praised the team as well as the efforts of both Jokic and Gordon.

“Wow! The Denver Nuggets/Los Angeles Clippers game was a true nail biter! Denver’s Aaron Gordon scored a put back at the buzzer to seal the victory for the Nuggets and Nikola Jokic had a dominating performance with 36 points and 19 rebounds. The Series is now tied 2-2!,” he wrote on X.

He wasn’t the only one. Dwyane Wade took to his X handle to share his take. “Aaron Gordon doing the dog work!” he wrote. Including the stunning clutch shot, Gordon hit 14 points and six rebounds. The Serbian star led in scoring as he dropped 36 points and 21 rebounds. Both Leonard and Powell dropped 24 and 22 points each, and it was Gordon’s shot that ultimately stole the spotlight, including the win. There was clearly more to this impressive buzzer-beater shot.

Nikola Jokic breaks down on the controversial shot

This looked like a clean and clever pass from the Serbian player. Only it wasn’t. The game was tied at 99 when Gordon took the shot. And while Jokic came to rescue, he missed his high-arching shot badly, Gordon was positioned just in the right place and reacted swiftly. He caught Jokić’s missed shot in the air and incredibly, dunked it just as the time expired.

It took some time for the game officials to come to a decision on the shot. Was Gordon quick enough? Replays showed that Gordon secured the ball with 0.2 seconds remaining and released it just before the time expired, and the red lights behind the backboard illuminated to signal the end of the game.

After much discussion, the shot was ruled good. Much later, Jokić revealed, “I thought that it was close, but it was really, really close.” During the post-game conference, Gordon appreciated Jokić’s incredible pass that led him to make the shot. “Nice pass,” he said. Laughing at the situation, Jokić revealed that it wasn’t a pass.

All in all, it was a good game for the Nuggets, tying the series. Next up, the two teams will come face-to-face for Game 5, which will decide which team takes the lead. With the series now deadlocked, the stage is set for a compelling Game 5, where the momentum generated by Gordon’s historic buzzer-beater will either propel the Nuggets forward or serve as a painful reminder of what could have been for the resilient Clippers. Regardless of the outcome, this chaotic and captivating clash will be remembered not just for Jokic’s dominance but for the unlikely hero who redefined the art of the game-winning shot.
