Whether you are a fan or not, you would have to agree that Dwyane Wade was a different beast in his prime. He was iconic. Three rings, 13 All-Star nods, and an Olympic gold. And that ridiculous 2009 season where he straight up carried Miami (30.2 ppg) while playing elite defense? Legend stuff. And let’s be real, nobody owned big moments like Flash. Whether it was dragging Shaq to a title in ’06, forming the Heatles super-team, or hitting game-winners, Wade played with a swag that defined an era. But even in those glamorous days, one choice of Wade took the coach to a fit of childish jealousy!

Dwyane Wade recently shocked us with a revelation that he wasn’t even on his best diet in those years! Like he is now. Post retirement, D-Wade’s life has revolved around wellness, both body and mind. He told Men’s Journal that “So, I get up at five, six in the morning, making sure, out here in L.A. I’m getting to my health. Because it’s the most important thing to me. If my body is not feeling good, then nothing else is going to feel good.” Yes, cancer and other ailments changed his life. But not everything was like this back in his golden days.

He does not take his health for granted at all, like he once did. He was so off diet that coach David Fizdale was almost jealous of him. On Pardon my Takehe revealed, “He told me one time, he was like, ‘You know what?’ He’s like, ‘I’m pissed off at my parents. I grew up, my mom always told me that I had to I had to eat healthy. I had to do all these things to be like, you know, if I want to be an athlete one day.'” Fizdale has always been the one to joke around, but this statement of his gave a reflection of D-Wade’s old lifestyle. “You don’t do none of those things, and you’re one of the greatest athletes that I’ve ever seen.” But even in that jealousy, Wade finds a life lesson.

Dwyane Wade himself confessed it properly then. “I mean, I was I was terrible with when I when I in my prime, that’s why I didn’t that’s why my prime didn’t last that long.” Maybe Dwyane Wade even carries a bit of regret that his greatness could have lasted longer. He shared, “Because I didn’t I didn’t have the things I needed. The nutrients for my body continue to perform the way it need to perform.” Imagine what a nutrient-packed Wade could have been if he were a Hall of Famer while lacking those. The interviewer even asked if D-Wade ever felt like his time was coming. To which Dwyane Wade replied, “Yeah. It was too late. It was. Father time was already at the door.”

Even though Dwyane Wade ran out of time back then, now he is making up for lost time by putting his health first every single day. He is no longer chasing championships, but he’s chasing balance, strength, and longevity. Late start? Maybe. But watching him now, you realize it’s never too late to do right by yourself.

Dwyane Wade recalls LeBron James’ target before the ‘peak’ Heat seasons

What’s your perspective on:

Did Dwyane Wade's lack of a strict diet cut his prime short? What could have been?

Have an interesting take?

Dwyane Wade recently joined Pardon My Take and didn’t hold back while recalling LeBron James’ infamous 2010 championship prediction. “Not one, not two, not three, not four, not five…” James had boldly declared. He had envisioned a dynasty with the Heat. Wade, laughing, admitted to the hosts that LeBron was “tripping” with that claim. Though the duo (alongside Chris Bosh) still delivered two titles in 2012 and 2013, plus two more Finals appearances in 2011 and 2014.

That initial hype, however, became one of the defining moments of the NBA’s super-team era. Dwyane Wade believed in their confidence at the time. He acknowledged that they truly believed they’d “run the table,” even if the reality of the NBA’s competitiveness proved tougher than expected, especially against rivals like the Spurs. The Heat’s strategy sparked a wave of star-studded teams chasing the same success.

The Thunder assembled Durant, Harden, and Westbrook. The Warriors built around Curry, Thompson, and Green. But Dwyane Wade’s interview highlights, stacking stars doesn’t guarantee rings; chemistry matters. Just look at today’s Suns, where Booker, Durant, and Beal are still figuring it out. The question now is: Who’s next to claim they’ll win “not one, not two…” like LeBron did?
