Anything for that recording contract – Shaq, probably. The big man won’t let up until someone acknowledges his vocals. Fake or otherwise. And he’s doing that during official duty, in his uniform no less. This time he’s made a pitch to Grammy-winning, multi-platinum-selling, R&B mogul, and frontman of 112, Slim. Shaquille O’Neal posted his demo singing Slim’s song, wanting his 34 million Instagram followers to help him sign with 112. Spoiler alert: it worked!

He lip-synched to 112’s 1997 hit, “Cupid” with a request to send it to the real guys. After captioning his audition with, “send this to @officialslim_ sign me up,” Slim listened. He was right there in the comments declaring, “HE’S SIGNNNNED!!!!!” Time to bust out the champagne.

Guess who else noticed too. The one who keeps Shaq’s antics in check. Steph Curry’s mom, Sonya Curry. Other than Shaq’s fake vocals, she noted more key details about his audition. “is that an official sheriff’s shirt?!” It very much is.

O’Neal is a voluntary officer in many counties in Florida, California, and Georgia. He’s the director of community relations at the Henry County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia. He resides there most months of the year owing to his other TV gig analyzing Steph Curry on the job.

The Shaq and Sonya combination is social media gold. Steph’s mom keeps tabs on the big man and even responds to him. Like correcting Shaq when he called himself the “Black Stephen Curry.” Mama Curry was gracious, not commenting on Shaq’s recent take on the Warriors. After Steph lost another shot at the Finals when the Kings eliminated the Dubs in the Play-ins, the TNT crew made a spectacle of it in Studio J. Along with sending them fishing on a packed boat, O’Neal also called Steph & Co. old.

Sonya didn’t comment on Shaq’s vocals either because, let’s face it, he’s not fooling anyone. Not even Slim, who’s a very close friend of DJ Diesel.

Officer Shaquille O’Neal’s collab with Slim

Marvin Scandrick aka Slim goes way back with O’Neal. Their social media interactions are usually not limited to showing off their pipes. A year ago, O’Neal donned a dapper suit and strut to 112’s “Cupid” again. But the official 112 pages teased him with, “old dudes that think they fine.”

But Shaq and Slim’s friendship shone most when he called him for an event for Henry County. Slim hosted a fundraiser and concert and summoned the 7’1″ Director of Community Relations to liven things up.

The R&B mogul definitely isn’t fooled by Shaq’s fake vocals. But their friendship could very well be threatened if he rescinded the recording contract.
