Otto Porter Retires From NBA: Draymond Green Gives 6-Word Tribute to Former Warriors Champion

It is unusual for NBA players to take retirement at the age of 30. And Otto Porter did this recently by announcing his retirement after 11 seasons in the NBA. For some members of the basketball community, this early retirement came as a surprise. Others have congratulated the 30-year-old for accomplishing something that many don’t get in their lifetime.
Taking to his official Instagram account, Draymond Green re-shared a post from Bleacher Reporter’s Instagram page. “Yeahhh Champ! Job well done OP,” read the caption to the Instagram story shared by Green. The post shared by Bleacher Report on their official page mentioned, “Otto Porter Jr. has announced he’s retiring from the NBA after 11 seasons”.
Though Otto may not have had a very impressive career stat line, many considered him to be a reliable player. Porter even has one NBA championship to his name, which a lot of players are unable to achieve despite their long career span and boastful stats. The championship for Porter arrived in the 2021-22 season while playing for the Golden State Warriors.

It is worth mentioning that Porter has cited physical exhaustion as the primary reason for his retirement. He shared his statement through his current franchise, Utah Jazz’s social media handle. “For the past 11 years, I had the chance to live my lifelong dream of playing in the NBA,” Otto said.

“That dream was capped by winning an NBA Championship! Unfortunately, my body is not allowing me to play at the level that I expect of myself, and I have therefore decided to retire,” further read Otto’s statement. With this, he has become one of the rare players who retired by an early age of 30.

Some other players who bid farewell to their NBA career by the time they turned 30
The ex-Los Angeles Lakers’ Andrew Bynum became one of the youngest players ever to retire from NBA. He took retirement from the game at a young age of 26. The main reason behind his early retirement is said to be the arthroscopic surgery that he got on both his knees in 2013.

Brandon Roy is yet another name who retired from NBA before turning 30. Considered to be a highly skilled scorer, his chronic knee problems abruptly halted Brandon’s career at an early age. He retired in 2013 after playing for the Portland Trail Blazers and Minnesota Timberwolves. Some other names who retired from NBA even before turning 30 include Royce White, Greg Oden, and Bradley Daughtery.
