Former Memphis Grizzlies player Marc Gasol has given his all to the franchise for the past 10 years. Finally, it’s time for the franchise to honor his contributions. After their 116-96 loss against the Philadelphia 76ers, the Grizzlies retired Gasol’s jersey number 33. The event drew a massive crowd of fans and attendance of NBA veterans, including Marc’s brother Pau Gasol. He made the event even more special with his memorable stories. One of them was when the two brothers faced off against each other in a game.

During the conversation, he shared how his brother always had an advantage over their matchups because Marc was aware of all his moves. During the press conference, he spoke of the time when Marc was in Barcelona and then finally in the NBA. Gasol shared, “Well, I always say, and I always say that it was very special to be able to play against your brother at the highest level. Very, very special.”

He further added, “I never took it for granted, but I also knew that it was going to be a hard night because I think probably Marcus opponent, the opponent that I have the least points in my career, because he knew all my moves, he was going to bring it.”

Coming back to the Grizzlies, the franchise also earned a gem in return for Gasol. Bringing his skills from playing in the Euroleague, Marc led the team to their only conference final appearance in franchise history in 2013. He was one of the best players in franchise history, being an all-time leader in free throws made (2701), rebounds (5952), and more.
