Paul Pierce’s decision to enroll at the University of Kansas over his native Los Angeles became a watershed moment in his iconic NBA career. Pierce resided in Englewood, where he witnessed the odds associated with the city life and culture. His choice turned out to be crucial in determining the path of his spectacular basketball career.

Not only did his stint at Kansas equip him for brilliance in the NBA, but it additionally offered him crucial concepts about perseverance, hard work, and aiming for perfectionism.

In an open conversation on All The Smoke podcast, Paul Pierce explored the elements that went into his crucial choice and clarified why Kansas was a better option for collegiate basketball than Los Angeles. Pierce felt impelled to seek a way out of the opportunities and distractions that were all around him. His desire to go away from the city and engage himself in an atmosphere that would be advantageous to his development both personally and athletically led him to opt for Kansas over nearby prospects like USC and UCLA: “I had to get out of there. You know, I only took, like two visits. So look, I go to USC, you know, Stace BOS man will even get all of them there. I’m, I’m seeing, with how they living, they living cool, they kicking in its weed smoke, everywhere! They shoot dice. I’m like, man, I ain’t going to see.”
