Just like his father, even the youngest son of the Smith clan plays as a guard. A previous Southside Hoops report showcased the California native. “2026 Melloy Smith is a 6’6 PG who is always under control and on balance. Frequently creates driving angles to attack the basket, doesn’t get rushed, athletic, and uses length well on the defensive end.” It was back in August last year that Kenny Smith’s son shared his excitement over joining the program.

I’m very excited to come to the SouthsideHoops ‘Where You At’ (WYA) Exposure Camp.” Although he has yet to have a breakout performance for his varsity team, Malloy is taking up challenges at every given moment.

Kenny took to Instagram to officially welcome Kevin Thomas to the Jet Academy family, captioning the post, “Welcome to the family! 🛩️.” Kevin Thomas, the 6’8″ guard will be part of the academy which has the mentors like Kendrick Nunn, Draymond Green, Coby White, Isaiah Stewart, and others.

Even Thomas was grateful for the offer. “It was a good feeling… They saw me play in Dallas for the Hoop Fest Tournament and they liked what they saw and told me they were going to offer me.”

Apart from broadcasting duties, Kenny Smith is giving mentorship to the next generation. He is making sure it starts at home with his youngest Malloy. It will be interesting to see if the 16-year-old will follow his elder brother and father’s footsteps if he joins the Tar Heels program.
