It was an unfortunate year for Florida State. Even after going undefeated throughout the season, the committee did not select the Florida State Seminoles for the college football playoffs. Furthermore, the team suffered a historic loss against the Georgia Bulldogs in the Orange Bowl due to unprecedented situations. However, many reporters used this opportunity to diminish the Seminoles’ argument. But Philadelphia 76ers legend Charles Barkley was not ready to let the reporters have their way.
During a recent episode of The Steam Room, Barkley called out the reporters for changing their views on Florida State and for bashing the team for losing when they did not have most of their starters. “This what I hate about punk a** reporters like myself on television and radio… We go on TV and radio and say what you wanna say. Sometimes you are right, and sometimes you are wrong… But these punk a** guys on television and radio are like, ‘See, I told you. Florida State weren’t no good. They didn’t deserve to be in the playoffs’. That’s not true,” said the 1993 NBA MVP.

While it is true that Florida State lost to Georgia with a score of 3-63, it has to be noted that many of the starting members did not play the game. As the team was not playing for the final championship and failed to qualify for the playoffs, 14 of their starters from its ACC Championship-winning roster sat down the Orange Bowl.

Sir Charles, who has been working in the media for over a decade, knows exactly how the reporters shift their words to make it seem as if their predictions were right all along. But in the end, Barkley is still sticking with his decision and is supporting the Florida State Seminoles.

Charles Barkley wanted Florida State to make the playoffs
Although FSU had an undefeated season and even won the ACC championship game, the committee that picks the teams for the playoffs did not believe that the team had enough to face the best competition in America after losing their star quarterback early in the season due to an injury.
The dominance the team has shown since then was not given much consideration. This has now made the team and their fans lose their trust in the committee. Barkley also publicly expressed that Florida State should have made the playoffs, but nothing can be done now as Michigan and Washington play tomorrow for the NCAA championship.
