Sir Charles isn’t just an NBA legend—he’s also a favorite on the celebrity golf circuit. But unfortunately, it is not in the way he would have wanted. His love for golf and perseverance to be better at it is praised by many. In recent years, Barkley has impressed at the American Century Championship and PGA Tour Champions Pro-Ams. It was almost the same buttery swing he had during his initial years of golfing. For his love of the sport and his desire to contribute to society, he attends several tournaments. This May, he is slated to make an appearance at another big event.

Not long ago, Barkley’s swing earned viral mockery for its ‘yips’. Charles Barkley’s smooth twist quickly turned into a swing plagued by the yips, which he struggled with for years. Not to mention the endless mockery from fans, golfing friends, and more.  In 2018, the 11x NBA All-Star teamed with swing coach Stan Utley—who dramatically cured his yips.

This May, Barkley tees off at the 2025 Regions Tradition Pro-Am at Greystone Golf & Country Club. Since relocating in 2016, this marks the Regions Tradition’s 9th year at GreystoneThe Regions Tradition—one of five majors on the PGA Tour Champions—returns May 14–18. Before the main event tees off, a star-studded lineup of celebrities will take to the course to showcase their skills. Pro-Am spectator tickets start at $30 per day.

Charles Barkley won the Capital One’s The Match

Chuck also boasts of having defeated another NBA player and amateur golfer, Stephen Curry! Remember that epic matchup? As mentioned, one might assume that defeating Chuck would be the easiest task when it comes to golfing. If Curry and Peyton Manning had any such misunderstanding, it was soon cleared up at the 2020 edition of Capital One’s The Match.

Curry and Chuck faced each other head-to-head at Canyon Golf Club in Arizona. Well, having a professional golfer by your side does come with some benefits. While Curry was paired with Manning, Barkley’s partner was pro golfer Phil Mickelson for the charity event.

Although the Phoenix Suns legend made a few mistakes, he was able to win thanks to the help of the pro golfer. In 2020’s The Match at Canyon Golf Club, Barkley and Phil Mickelson beat Curry and Peyton Manning 4-and-3, raising $4.4 million.

Barkley and Mickelson surged 4-up by the seventh hole, fueled by four consecutive hole victories, and maintained at least a 3-up advantage for the remainder of the match. At the end, it was Mickelson who stepped up to clinch the upset. The event raised reportedly $4.4 million.

While Mickelson sealed the victory, Barkley contributed crucial mid-match birdies. And most importantly, there were no odd or bizarre swings for the viewers to be entertained by. Chuck’s love for the sport is far from over and it wouldn’t be wrong to expect more action at the latest tournament.
