Horry’s co-host on the podcast, Rob Jenners was talking about being fired from jobs and what that experience is like, especially for someone serious about their work. This brought back some sad memories for Horry as he recalled how his time with the Lakers came to an end. In addition to that, his tenure with the San Antonio Spurs was also a tough one to deal with. The NBA veteran said, “The way I was let go with the Lakers pissed me off but then I let that go. And the way some things went down with the Spurs. I kinda didn’t let that go, but then I let it go.”

Horry said, “There’s so many things that…fans don’t know, and even during this day and age, they think they know everything…but really they still don’t know”. The 7x NBA champion said that regardless of the glittery world that the NBA might look like from the outside, players have feelings that often get hurt by some of the behind-the-scenes politics.

Robert Horry reflected on his time with the Lakers

In 2015 Horry wrote a piece for The Players’ Tribune where he talked about his career and his time with the Lakers. He wrote that he understood the Lakers would be looking for another player in 2003, notably Karl Malone. So he knew that his time with the LA franchise is about to end and all he wanted was some more time. However, things didn’t go as well for him as he would’ve hoped for and that caused a rift between him and the Lakers.

In that letter, he also talked very highly of Kobe. He wrote, “Kobe’s dedication to the game is unreal. And I mean that in the truest sense … it was literally unbelievable. The common denominator in every championship team is the mentality that Kobe has.” After all these years, the old feelings were reignited during his discussion with Jenners on the podcast.
