Gabrielle Union has always been vocal about her mental health struggles with the media. In an interview, she talked about how she felt “broken” after Dwayne Wade conceived a child with another woman via surrogacy amid her infertility struggles. After the couple welcomed their baby ‘Kaavia James’ in 2018, the couple were extremely happy.

However, Union said it took her over a year to “make peace” and accept the surrogacy route because she felt like “a failure” for not carrying her herself.

On a recent episode of the podcast The Relationship Chronicles with Nina Westbrook, Union recalls when she showed up on the set of Kevin Hart’s Think Like a Man Too and told him what she was going through, to which Hart apparently replied, “…okay… well… we’re gonna just make Vegas the best time ever.”

Gabrielle Union’s relationship with husband Dwayne Wade

Despite having a rocky relationship in the past, the married couple seem to finally be at a “good place” mentally as they co-parent their four-year old daughter, Kaavia James. Moving on from the “bad” phase of their relationship when Dwayne Wade had cheated on her and had a baby with someone else, Union has been very vocal that her relationship with her husband has gotten stronger since then and that she chose to “love him and forgive him” after Wade “worked to be forgiven.”

The couple has always been opinionated about everything in their lives and are not afraid to show their vulnerable sides to the world. In a world where issues regarding mental health are increasing at a rapid pace, it is refreshing to see Gabrielle Union be an ideal role model as she faces her mental health issues head-on.
