We all know who lives next door, right? Wait, not everyone. That’s the kind of surprise NBA legend Robert Horry dropped on his podcast, Big Shot Bob. What started as a casual chat about daily life and funny celebrity moments took a sharp, star-studded turn. One moment they were talking about their kids, the next…boom! Marvel royalty was in the mix. This story is about the unexpected Marvel actor popping up in Horry’s podcast. “So I will mention one more person,” Horry teased when talking about unexpected celebrity encounters on his podcast.

But she’s my neighbor and my son is friends with their kids, so I don’t want to say it…” That’s how it started. The co-host nudged him for the name, and Horry finally dropped it. The story unfolded through a surprising connection between their children, who go to Harvard-Westlake. Horry explained, asking his son, “Did you make any friends on the bus? He’s like, I met this one guy named Slater.” Marvel fans…assemble! Horry’s going all out on this one.

It is at this moment that Horry reveals that his neighbour is none other than Angela Bassett. Yes, that Angela Bassett…the Queen of Wakanda herself. Shocked, the co-host fired back, “Wait, wait, wait… Angela Bassett lives near you?” And how did he discover? After a few weeks, when Horry checked on Christian, only to discover: “Oh yeah, me and Slater are cool. And Slater’s mom is in the entertainment business, too.” A curious question then hit Horry. “Oh, what’s she do?” He says, ‘I think she was the mom in Black Panther.’ I’m like, ‘Wait a minute. You mean Slater’s mom is Angela Bassett?” Horry couldn’t believe his son didn’t immediately recognize Bassett. And Christian’s reaction?

He’s like, ‘Yeah, that’s her.’ I said, ‘Man, give me your black card. You don’t know who Angela Bassett is.’ He was like, ‘Wow.’ Yeah. The mom in Black Panther. I said, ‘You don’t understand who Angela Bassett is, dude.’ She’s like a… she’s like black—she is royalty.” Horry joked that Christian was an anime guy back then, but now Christian knows who Angela Bassett is. What started as a simple parent moment turned into a hilarious revelation of living next to one of the most iconic actresses in Hollywood. And Horry, being the proud and funny dad he is, shared the whole story with a smile and a laugh.

Horry’s reality check as fan moment turns into a surprise dinner

And it was not the only crazy celebrity account from Robert Horry! When it was Salma Hayek’s turn, everything got better magically. One said, “Have you seen her on the cover of the swimsuit issue? She is 58 years old.” Another one said, “I saw her in From Dusk Till Dawn.” Then Horry could not resist: “I can’t believe I never told y’all my Selma Hayek story!”

Horry then took us back to the night he hit the game winner against the Portland Trail Blazers. He revealed that after the game he was in the gas station as his phone rang. On the other side was Selma Hayek. Which he first thought was a lie. Eventually, though, he realized it was indeed really her. Horry recalled how she talked on the phone about her screaming when Horry made the shot.

At first, Horry felt Selma was a big fan of her, and that’s the moment the bombshell: “Edward wants to talk,” she said, turning the phone over to her then-boyfriend Edward Norton. Norton proceeded to tell Horry how excited they were and ask if he would come hang out with them, followed by the invitation to the Frida premiere, with Selma asking Horry personally to be her guest.

At the premiere, he remembered her coming running up to him in a pink dress. “She hugs me and says, ‘I’m so glad you came.’ Horry recalls as they sat together, and as the movie started. It was at this moment that a few scenes from the movie made him uncomfortable as Selma sat right beside him, giving him no chance to laugh through the situation.

Some good, some bad, one thing is for sure… Robert Horry has gone places in his prime, and each time he sits down in his podcast, you’re going to have a blast. Whether it’s Selma Hayek or MCU queen, he’s going places.
