The New Orleans Pelicans recently took down the Sacramento Kings to advance to the semifinals of the in-season tournament. The team is being led by Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. Although Zion has been playing great this season, he is still yet to show his true potential as he struggles with managing his weight.

In a recent episode of Run It Back, Danny Green and Lou Williams joined the show to talk about the Pelicans as they are looking to punch their tickets to Las Vegas with one more win. While the team has been good, the 76ers legend does not believe Zion Williamson can return to his dominant self from previous years.

While talking about the best players on the team, it is still unclear who is leading the charge. But Danny Green said, “I think Zion is, but BI has to be their best offensive option“.

He considers Zion to be the best player, but Green knows that Williamson is still not in the right shape for him to bring out his full potential. Green continued that the player has some way to go before he reaches his former self but that’s when 76ers legend Lou Williams interrupted him and said that he thinks it is not possible anymore for Williamson to do so.

Lou Williams clarified that it is because of the schedule of the NBA and how Zion will only get older as time goes by, so it won’t be possible for him to play above the rim as he used to. Danny Green then further added, “You have to have a different type of discipline to get back to your younger self, and I don’t think Lou trusts that in Zion.”

Zion Williamson is only 23 years old, and it is far too soon to rule out the possibility that he can’t go back to a thinner version of himself. But with the lifestyle in New Orleans, these NBA veterans do not believe that Zion Williamson has what it takes.

The Pelicans have gotten off to an impressive start this season. They currently have a 12-10 record, even after going on a five-game losing streak earlier in the season. CJ McCollum has returned from his recent health scare, and the team is a major threat in the current in-season tournament.

They got the job done against the Sacramento Kings, who are in the top five in their conference. With how the team is playing right now, they are only going to get better as Zion Williamson gets back into better shape and the rest of the team starts making their shots more consistently.

I did not follow the traditional route to become a journalist, but my love for basketball and writing has brought me here. Seeing LeBron James? Cleveland Cavaliers make the iconic comeback from a 1-3 deficit in 2016 changed everything for a young engineering aspirant within me. Rather than simply looking at the game, I love to analyze how each player contributes to a team using BPM (Box Plus Minus) and other advanced metrics.
