Conspiracy theories rear their heads from all corners of the internet, and the sport of basketball has seen a surge in them recently. However, almost anyone can come up with something that is completely a product of their own doing. Recently Sebastian Telfair showcased one such theory of his own, and it’s about the marriage status of NBA players and the alarming rate of divorces.

Telfair brought everyone into the mix from Shaquille O’Neal to Michael Jordan, only to make his point that the NBA players need to be more careful about who they marry and share a space with. He said, “Dude’s gotta understand that the pretty girl that’s on the side of you right now, in that nice house, her energy will shift.”

Ex-NBA star speaks on Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal’s failed marriages

Telfair claimed that he is speaking from experience and the things he has seen happening in the world of basketball. He said that 9 out of 10 times, the players will regret their decision to marry a “pretty girl.” “Kevin Garnett got a divorce, Shaq got a divorce, Michael Jordan got a divorce“, he added. Telfair said that most of the relationships that the NBA stars have, especially the married ones are “bogus.” However, he did say that there is one good example of a good marriage in the NBA.

Telfair said, “Them basketball players and everybody you see right now with them girls, them girls ain’t it. Now you still got that one. So I don’t wanna discredit, maybe Savannah[James] is the one.” The ex-NBA star was trying to make a point that the NBA athletes have suffered the most financially when they have had to go through a divorce. The MJ divorce that he mentioned during the interview, was the costliest divorce in the world at the time in terms of settlement price.

However, to make a claim that there is some sort of conspiracy going on sounds like a reach. Telfair said that he sees a pattern in the way some of the biggest names have separated from their spouse. He said that the marriage lasts as long as they are an active athlete, but as soon as the retirement kicks in, the women are gone.

He said, “Y’all all stay the whole career, ’cause y’all don’t want another chick sitting there, and then y’all bouncin’.” Clearly, he feels very passionate about this subject. But to claim that there’s some hidden agenda in those failed marriages when it is well known that most of the fallout was a result of infidelity among other issues is far-fetched.
