Between winning the Sixth Man of the Year award three times and having a signature dish named after you, which is a personal achievement? Lemon Pepper Lou had a hilarious response to that. Shaquille O’Neal had his old friend, Lou Williams with comedian Bill Bellamy on The Big Podcast and they couldn’t let the infamous episode that resulted in Williams’ nickname and a signature dish slide by.

When the COVID-19 pandemic halted all sports events, the league tried to continue games in the NBA Bubble in Orlando. There were some infamous incidents regarding players breaking the Bubble rules. One of them was Williams “sneaking out” and going to a Magic City gentleman’s club. He hilariously told Shaq having the chicken wings at the heart of this episode being named after him is a big achievement because that’s apparently what everyone remembers out of his 15-year career.
In the frenzy that ensued, Williams lowkey had Shaq in his corner. In this podcast, O’Neal said, “I had to do something I never wanted to do. I had to go in on you. Because it was going viral and everybody was talking about it.” That’s why he insisted on Williams telling his side of the story, though Lemon Pepper Lou claims it wasn’t that interesting.

As the story goes, Williams had official permission to leave the Bubble to attend the funeral of his business partner, Paul G. Williams’ father. Once he was outside, the then-Los Angeles Clippers player was craving something that was not the hotel room service under the restrictive conditions. The wake was a block away from Magic City, so Williams whisked off there.

He thought, “I’m a block from Magic, we leave here I’m gonna go grab something to eat, then I’mma go and get out.” All the claims alleging he was partying outside the bubble were as he said, “bulls**t.” He said there were about five people with him and he had his mask on the entire time.
Lou Williams’ friend got him in trouble
The cause of the blowup was Jack Harlow, Williams’ friend since 2017. The rapper was in Magic City and asked Williams for a picture. Lou saw no harm since they had masks on and they took precautions. Williams returned to the Bubble without issues until Harlow posted that image.

Williams recalled the blow-up, “ Open my phone, Twitter is going crazy, Lou Williams sneaks out of the bubble to go to Magic City…” Lou emphasized he followed the rules, he had a doctor with him for regular testing and was on Day 4 of quarantine when the news broke.
He admitted that while he didn’t ‘sneak out’ of the Bubble, he didn’t have permission to go to Magic City. But, “I wanted something to eat, you know what I’m saying, and the wings are good so…” He even bemoaned Harlow’s failed attempt to diffuse the situation. He was so stung by the drama that when another opportunity to escape presented himself, he didn’t take it. Shaq though reiterated it was good he caught a break in those circumstances.
