The entire black community celebrated the incredible achievement of Late Chadwick Boseman’s Alma Mater yesterday.

From not having won a swimming championship in 30 years to shattering black stereotypes, Late Chadwick Boseman’s Alma Mater ends the 30 year-old drought. The former 4x NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal posted on his Instagram as he joins the thousands who weep in joy, celebrating this incredible achievement.

Howard University’s ‘Men’s Swimming and Diving Team’ created history by winning the 2023 Northeast Conference Championship. There exists a ridiculous stereotype that African-American kids are more likely to drown while swimming in comparison to other Americans. However, what is more shocking is that in the entire American professional swimming collegium, only 1.5 percent are African-American.

Getting people involved in swimming in the African-American community is a huge deal. For an all-black Howard University swim team to actually win a big swimming championship is truly remarkable! The former Los Angeles Lakers star acknowledges the gravity of this feat as he proudly shares his joy with his Instagram family.


Many speculate that this will open the gates for more African-American kids to enter the world of professional swimmers. The Late Chadwick Boseman would definitely have been proud of his Alma Mater’s inspiring achievement.

What does the future behold for the African-American swimmers?

The possibilities are endless. This achievement of Howard University’s Men’s swimming and diving team is making waves all over the country. This feat definitely acts as a vote of confidence for entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs from all over the world may be more likely to invest their money in the African-American Swimmers/Olympians of the future.

To encourage a program which may not be “socially popular” may seem inconvenient for many universities, especially, if proper funds are not allocated for that program. Hence, universities like Howard University should also be given credit for their efforts and sincerity to focus on all programs equally.

African-American entrepreneurs and investors like Shaquille O’Neal must invest their money in helping more athletes like the all-black Howard swimming and diving team too. By doing so, one will not just empower kids to dream big and achieve whatever they want. It will also completely shatter illogical stereotypes like “African-Americans cannot swim”.
