Shaquille O’Neal has never hesitated to help people. He is true to himself and values authenticity more than anything else. While he always does his best to do the right thing, it is rare, but sometimes things don’t pan out the right way. One such instance was his legal issue involving promotions for FTX and the Astrals NFT project. The NBA legend was hit with a lawsuit over this back in May 2023. Just a few months ago, O’Neal’s party agreed to a settlement. With this latest new update, the lawsuit could finally come to an end.

The lawsuit claimed that Shaq had promoted the NFTs as the face of Astrals. It also claimed that he acted as a “control person” with some decision-making power. However, the Florida court dismissed the second claim. The 4x NBA champ had reportedly agreed to pay a settlement fund worth $11 million. This was in exchange for having the suit dismissed.

That two-year rollercoaster of court dates and lawyer talks finally rolled to a stop, when Judge Federico Moreno gave the green light to the deal—wrapping up a saga that’s been hanging over Shaq since those first legal papers landed.

The fund was for the investors, and $2.9 million of it would be reportedly allocated to attorneys’ fees and costs. After a long wait, Florida federal judge Federico Moreno has approved of the settlement between O’Neal and the class group led by Daniel Harper in an order as per the latest update by Bloomberg. 

Anyone who purchased Astrals NFTs between May 2022 and January 15, as well as those who bought the project’s native GLXY tokens up until mid-January, are eligible. “The fee sought by lead class counsel has been reviewed and approved as fair and reasonable by plaintiffs,” the judge’s order read. 

With this, O’Neal, who has been silent on the matter, will finally be able to bring it to an end. Another such odd instance involving O’Neal’s friend is mentioned in his autobiography, Shaq Uncut.

Shaquille O’Neal  detailed wrong James Posey story

In his book, Shaq Uncut: My Story, the 15x NBA All-Star explained that one of his teammates, James Posey, had gotten into trouble. He detailed that the law enforcement people had arrested Posey for driving under the influence. However, he shared that Posey wasn’t driving. As per the book, he was simply sitting in his car. 

Upon reaching the police station, Posey called O’Neal for help. However, despite his wish to help, O’Neal arrived too late. “They arrested him for something called driving under suspicion. He got to the police station, and he called me because I’m friendly with a lot of the law enforcement people. But I got there too late. They had already fingerprinted him and booked him, so there was nothing I could do,” O’Neal read.

But here’s the thing, the story reported by ESPN is a bit different from O’Neal’s. It says that Posey was, in fact, driving the car when the police stopped him. He was released on a $1,000 bond.
