Currently ranked 13th in the Eastern Conference, the Charlotte Hornets have had one of the worst starts to their new NBA season. Despite the NBA team’s poor performance, LaMelo Ball’s individual statistics are definitely noteworthy.

In an interview, a former Grizzlies star lauds the 6’7 point guard for his impressive basketball performances recently. Former Clippers star Lou Williams also emphasizes how the Charlotte Hornets should capitalize on LaMelo Ball’s potential as a player.

In a “Run it Back” interview, the host and panelists discuss the Charlotte Hornets’ current situation as the 3rd last team in the East. The host talks about the Hornets’s recent win against the Boston Celtics, “There’s a guy on the team that you would want to build around in LaMelo Ball. His 6th 30-point game in his last 8 games. He’s fun to watch.” The host then asks former NBA star Lou Williams if LaMelo is the type of player one builds a team around and Lou Williams instantly replies, “Absolutely.

He further explains, “If you’re the Charlotte Hornets, I think you kind of take a page out of the Houston Rockets notebook. Go get some vets to build around him. Some young talent…he’s one of those guys. Last 6 out of 8 games he has 30-point performances but I think he’s trying to do…he’s having to do too much to carry this team to victories over and over again.” After having multiple 30-point performances and securing victories for his team, LaMelo Ball is definitely the Hornets’ ‘golden boy’.

Former Clippers star Lou Williams believes LaMelo can be the “cornerstone” for the Charlotte Hornets in the future. In the same “Run it Back” interview, Ex-Grizzlies star Chandler Parsons also talks about LaMelo Ball’s playing style and overall potential.

The host of the “Run it Back” show plays a highlight clip of LaMelo Ball from his most recent game against the Boston Celtics. In the highlight clip, we see the Hornets star deliver a mean crossover to Jrue Holiday (one of the league’s best defenders), ‘breaking’ his ankles in the process. After watching the highlight clip, the ex-Grizzlies star Chandler Parsons says, “There’s breaking one off, and then there’s breaking the best defending guard off.” He explains, “You know what I like about LaMelo Ball? He looks like a kid who is just hooping in the park. I feel like this is exactly how he would play in LA Fitness.

The ex-Grizzlies star further says, “He has fun. He is exciting to watch. And as kind of shi*ty as this organization has been, this kid is a bright sport. At least he gives his fans a show every single night…he is a rare rare special talent. He’s just not getting as much attention as the other guys because he’s sort of stuck in Charlotte.

Ranked as the 3rd last in the Eastern Conference with a win-loss ratio of 4-9, the Charlotte Hornets need to make some serious changes to their roster. Despite their nail-biting victory over the Boston Celtics in overtime recently, the Hornets do not look like a ‘play-off ready’ team yet.
