Paul Pierce and Gilbert Arenas’ disrespect for South Sudan did not go well with Luol Deng. Notably, Arenas had criticized the South Sudan team after their exhibition game ahead of the Paris Olympics. “Almost lost to the Ahi Ahi tribe,” Gil had said of the exhibition game between Team USA and South Sudan. Meanwhile, Pierce had criticized the opponent team’s players’ heights.

After Deng’s response to the two ex-NBA stars’ criticism, Arenas has delivered an apology but not without a swipe at the South Sudan BF President. Gil took to his IG story, featuring Deng’s remarks on Arenas and Pierce’s comments. “I respected u as a player and will as a coach (Sorry for my Disrespectful comments) Good luck but not enough luck to win the Gold “Silver” is all urs,” the former Wizards star captioned his story.

Luol Deng had stated his disappointment didn’t lie in Arenas and Pierce’s “ignorant remarks”. But the fact that they came from two individuals he always respected. However, among the two stars, Deng found Arenas’ comments to be more disrespectful and cruel. In fact, he does not care much about Gil’s comments either. But the South Sudan BF President worries for young African and African American kids who admire and listen to Gilbert.

“These comments can make you think less of yourself and make the rest of the world think less of Africans,” Deng said. Apart from the earlier mentioned remark, Gil had also ranted that Team USA is not supposed to lose to a team that does not even have shoes and basketball rims, and gets all this from the US. Additionally, he blamed Joel Embiid for bringing the game to a close call against South Sudan. “Goddamn throwing the game for his cousins and sh*t,” he said.

Joel Embiid responds to Gilbert Arenas’ comments

During a recent interview, the Philadelphia 76ers star stated although he did not know exactly what Arenas said, he still felt disappointed in negativity towards African basketball. “Obviously, I don’t condone it… I’m African, first and foremost,” he said of Gil’s comments.

Further, during the interview, he emphasized he may play for Team USA, but this does not change the fact he is Cameroonian first. The 7x All Star also spotlighted African basketball’s contribution in putting players like him in a position to have some impact.

“It’s really unfortunate especially in the world we live in now. So much negativity,” Embiid concluded. Now, Gilbert Arenas is yet to respond to Joel’s remarks on the ex-Wizards star’s controversial comments.
