Iverson, a former NBA MVP and incredible legend, is finally due his place to be immortalized. Nonetheless, the night got somewhat different from Iverson’s truth because the Philadelphia-76ers, the team he used to belong to, made an official presentation of what they had commissioned as the statue.

The statue shown in the picture was created by the sculptor Julie Rotblatt Amran who depicted Iverson in his iconic dunking pose. Nevertheless, viewers argued about the scale and measurements of the statue. Social media was abuzz with comments from different people such as “Small Ahh Statue” and “Why so small?” Iverson acknowledged, saying “It is different, at least that’s true.” during his enshrinement speech.

Iverson’s acceptance speech on that special Tuesday evening was significantly overshadowed by the controversy generated by the statute. Some fans showed that they didn’t think the 6-footer statue was a proper depiction of Iverson’s in-your-face personality and greatness on the court. Iverson, who played fearlessly on the court and was surrounded by hype, was all about basketball regardless of his eyebrow-raising build which to many was small compared to other big men in the NBA.

The 76ers not only defended this statue, but they affirmed that it was supposed to be seen from one particular angle and that this dynamic shot fully portrays Allen’s pose. Nevertheless, the blow, caused by the joy turning into a sullen mood, was evident. The enshrinement celebration of Iverson is supposed to be a day of celebrating him, but it turned into a scornful dishonor paradoxically.

Allen Iverson’s Basketball Career

That was the year Iverson got into the elite level of the game, and he did this really well, playing a total of 81 games and averaging 23.5 points a game which got him an MVP award. Within a short period of time, he established himself a credible top scorer of the league with annual all-star nominations from the NBA which was all throughout his first 11 seasons in the NBA.

Though Iverson’s magic happened mostly on the court, the impact of his actions went far beyond the boundaries of the courts. He turned to be a cultural personification, being hence well known for his own trademark style both inside the game and outside. Those tats, braids, and baggy clothes made him a trendsetter.

According to the statistics, on the court Iverson saw plenty of successes as well as failures. He also united many journalists by various controversies. Frequently, this approach received criticism for his rough behavior and rebellious attitude.

Whether or not someone else was stronger or bigger, he never backed down from the fight and was never afraid of contact. He was the league’s leading scorer on four occasions during his career and was named the greatest player of the season in 2001, leading the 76ers up to the NBA finals.
