“Softest superstar in Celtics history”! That’s the label Brandon Jennings slapped on Jayson Tatum recently. And if you know anything about NBA culture, you know that’s all it takes to spark a firestorm. As a result, this was the main focus point of this week’s episode of the Pat Bev Pod. When the topic was brought up to Patrick Beverley, he stayed cool, but his answer wasn’t.

On Wednesday’s episode, co-host Adam Ferrone brought up the matter, casually saying, “I think he (Jennings) called him the Softest Celtic Superstar.” A player like Jennings, who thinks the NBA used to be rougher and more ruthless, might have a skewed perspective.

Patrick didn’t waste a second before firing back. “Just because he not yelling, and you can see his tattoos, doesn’t mean he’s soft,” Beverley shot back.

Patrick didn’t stop there. He took it even further, praising Jayson’s talent and work ethic. “He’s skilled as fu*k. I think he’s talented as fu*k. He has a ton of size…” Beverley went on, emphasizing that just because Jayson doesn’t fit the typical “tough guy” image doesn’t mean he lacks toughness.

“He doesn’t look like the normal tough guy doesn’t mean that he is not,” he added. From Patrick’s words, it’s clear he knows Jayson well, as he continued, “I mean he gets it done. He literally gets it done.” At the end of the clip, Patrick went straight for Brandon’s throat.

This could’ve been a little payback, but either way, it was brutal. He straight-up said, “When I guarded Brandon Jennings, I’m like he is soft a**.” Bev literally went there!

What actually led to all this? Let’s take a step back and look at when this all started.

The Brandon Jennings-Jayson Tatum beef

Jayson Tatum, the five-time NBA All-Star and Celtics champion, isn’t your typical player. Unlike Celtics legends like Larry Bird or Paul Pierce, Tatum doesn’t get into trash talk on the court. In fact, he’s known for being one of the most polite players to ever step on the hardwood.

But for Brandon Jennings, this is a major red flag, especially coming from a Celtics star. Is Tatum’s quiet demeanor really why Jennings made those harsh comments, or is there something else at play? Whatever the reason, plenty of players have already voiced their opposition to Jennings’ take. And now, with Bucks point guard Patrick Beverley adding his unfiltered response, things are heating up even more.

But it’s very clear that Beverley has a ton of respect for Jayson, both on and off the court. The message was loud and clear: respect where it’s due.

We don’t know where this will end, or if it’s just the beginning of something new. What we do know is that this drama is far from over.
