The last thing was earned on the court, but MJ was never afraid to splurge money on his off-the-court luxuries. Over the years, his car collection grew and was reportedly worth over $8.3 million. One such car part of the lore was the Ferrari 512 TR Testarossa, which has resurfaced again. But had it vanished?

His Airness was going through a phase of buying cars in colors to match his suits. Which is why he selected his first Ferrari in black and with the number plate “M AIR J”. The purchase was in February 1992, and it was part of his collection for nearly 3 years. It was millionaire Chris Gardner who ended up purchasing this car back in 1995 from Michael Jordan. However, he was not the only owner after MJ, as We Are Curated found the truth about the car and why it did not appear after 2010.

I think this next part of the story is just so special because it wasn’t just the will to win of the first owner, um, or the second owner but the third owner’s story.” The narrator stated on the YouTube video. “It’s the first time the car has been seen in probably 15 years publicly.” As per the video, the Ferrari eventually ended up with a third owner in 2010. Shortly after acquiring the car, he was diagnosed with bone cancer, and the Ferrari was parked.

Thus, the third owner was only able to take in the Ferrari experience for only 9 months. However, against all odds, both the man and the car survived — enduring wildfires, time, and illness. That’s why the car was never seen after 2010, since the owner was battling his own issues. Now that we know the story of one of the MJ’s cars, let’s dive deep into the exquisite car collection.

Michael Jordan was always a car savant

Even during his rookie year, the Bulls legend had a condition of receiving the red Mercedes 380SL before signing any of his commercial deals. Although that part of the condition never came to fruition, he went on to have a car collection. It started in 1984, not with the red Mercedes but with the Chevrolet Corvette C4, which was a gift for a North Carolina alum.

Apart from the Ferrari 512 TR, another Prancing Horse in his collection was the Ferrari 488 Pista Spider. Its value is approximately $350,000, not much when you see other cars. The 2010 Bugatti Veyron Sang Noir, only 12 of them are available, and Michael Jordan succeeded in obtaining the rarest car. With the acceleration of 0-100 in 2.5 seconds, MJ had to spend $2.2 million to acquire it.

The most expensive purchase in MJ’s car collection is said to be the 2023 Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution Roadster. Even that car had a story as the John Hennessey, a former race car driver and the person who built the car personally delivered the car to His Airness. But the emotional journey of the Ferrari 512 TR Testarossa hits different. Even MJ couldn’t have predicted the journey of the car and the willpower of the third owner.
