Is there anyone in the sporting world as polarizing as Stephen A. Smith? Whether it’s his fiery debates on “First Take” or unfiltered takes on his self-titled show, Stephen’s voice seems tailor-made for controversy. However, his provocative opinions don’t always align with those of his audience.

And recently, Stephen found himself amid a controversy. Last week, he appeared on Fox News to share his insights on various topics. Meanwhile, he defended Donald Trump stating that his comments about Black Americans hold some truth. He expressed “As much as people may have been abhorred by Donald Trump’s statement weeks ago,…what Black Americans have gone through, he wasn’t lying; he was telling the truth.

Within seconds of the interview airing, the clip made waves online. Former basketball sensation Kwame Brown couldn’t resist weighing in. He recorded a reaction to Stephen A. Smith and posted it on his official YouTube account with the title, “Kwame Brown Reacts To Stephen A. Getting Cancelled, Forced To Apologize!

In the same video, he thew a gauntlet at Stephen A Smith as he said, “I thought he (Stephen) didn’t care because normally if you go to YouTube you have your own stuff. But Stephen A. Smith still wants to be liked by the woke mob,” He added, “Man, they checked Stephen A. Smith so quick, everybody’s checking Stephen A. Smith… He’s copying, please like them all.” But the controversy didn’t end there.

Stephen A Smith’s apology

On April 22nd, Stephen issued a formal apology video on his official YouTube channel, taking accountability for his statement. Though he asserted that the Black community misunderstood his words. He said,A lot of folks in Black America seem pretty pissed at me right now… quite a few folks were offended as my words were interpreted as associating support for Trump by the Black community with all the legal issues he’s facing.

He added, “For that, I sincerely apologize. I’m stating right here for the record that I was taken out of context.” While apologizing for the incident, he insisted that he was just stating facts. Moving on, he mentioned that all the facts were gathered from reputable news resources including NBC, The New York Times and Axios. Though he justified what he said, he remained apologetic for all that happened. Now the question is: What was this video for? Is it an apology or justification for all that happened?
