Does Jason Hehir have any regrets regarding The Last Dance poster? Probably not, but he did have some doubts. Every time the director of The Last Dance speaks, he reveals lesser-known facts about the docuseries to the fans. The latest revelation is surprising. Hehir admitted that he wasn’t sure about featuring Steve Kerr on the poster for the docuseries. But why did he consider excluding Kerr?

Hehir felt that there were other Bulls players more deserving of a spot on the poster. Kerr, who played five seasons with the team, was not a starter and typically came off the bench. Hehir believed that Ron Harper or Luc Longley should have been featured instead. “Kerr was ambivalent I think about the doc because he was literally front and center on the poster and wasn’t a starter you know you know he’s got a good case that Ron Harper deserved to be a bigger part of the doc cuz he was a bigger part of the team,” Hehir said.

The poster included Kerr, Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, and Phil Jackson. Many thought Ron Harper, as a starter, deserved more visibility. On the other hand, Luc Longley was left out of the docuseries due to time constraints and the high cost of traveling to Western Australia.

The producers had previously explained that sending the crew there was too expensive. While many blamed the directors for it, Hehir clarified the truth. He admitted that the former Australian NBA player was not very comfortable or good with interviews. He also stated that if the NBA and ESPN had provided the funds, he would have gone all the way to Australia to interview the champ.

“I was told by multiple sources that he wasn’t interested in doing it and we had a ton of footage on him and he wasn’t the greatest interview from the interview he did in ’98 and I thought all right what if we do force him to do this we get on a plane we go all the way there and he’s a dud it wasn’t a budget,” Hehir explained.

However, the Chicago Bulls legend, Longley, believes that his exclusion from the popular docuseries turned out to be good.

How Luc Longley’s exclusion from The Last Dance sparked attention

The Last Dance faced several controversies, including Pippen’s dissatisfaction with the docuseries. However, the most notable snub was arguably Longley’s absence. Jordan later expressed regret about his former teammate’s absence. In a conversation with the Australian Broadcasting Company, Longley expressed that he felt ‘bummed’ about it.

But Longley’s absence was felt not only by his teammates but also by many Australian fans, sparking renewed interest in his NBA career. His jersey number 13 was relaunched by Mitchell and Ness. “Thank you for leaving me out of the Netflix doco because this wouldn’t have happened if they had put me in it,” Longley said to Herald.

Despite the initial disappointment, the situation ultimately turned out well for the 3X NBA champion.
