LeBron James became everyone’s number 1 enemy after he joined the Miami Heat in 2010. To add to the basketball community’s fury, King James infamously declared that the ‘Super Team’ comprising himself, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh, would go on to win at least seven NBA Championships for the Heat. On the other side of history from his bold claim, what would his peers have to say about it? The Miami Heat got to keep him for a mere four seasons in the end and the “7 Rings” declaration rings hollow now.

Over the years, LeBron’s prediction became iconic, and it is instilled in the minds of most basketball buffs. Dwyane Wade sat down with Shannon Sharpe a few months ago and gave his two cents on that memorable moment.

During his appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s ‘Club Shay Shay‘ podcast, Dwyane Wade shed some light on what was happening behind the scenes and how James’ teammates saw the “7 Rings” declaration. Wade said that he did not take James’ shocking multiple-title prediction seriously and that no one should have.

“Yeah, I didn’t take it seriously,” Wade said. “Did anyone out there take it serious? Like, come on, guys. We were having a parade. We were doing what we were doing in the crib talking with our homies…That’s what he did. He added a little sauce and then that sauce became, ‘Oh, we going to hold them to it.’”

Dwyane Wade’s opinion on James’ words is that it was all big talk due to the parade’s emotional high and that no one should have held them to those words. The Heatles were on a roll and it is understandable why LeBron James would have made such a massive claim.

Miami felt the massive weight of expectations

It seems now that LeBron had simply spoken in an intense celebration euphoria, but fans did not react well at the time. The three members of the ‘Super Team’ came under vicious hatred and vitriol directed at them by disappointed fans. While Miami could only win 2 championships in the end, they did make the Finals every year they played together.

Nevertheless, looking back at the claim now, it does seem like James overestimated his team’s ability. Would he want to do it differently if given the chance? We may never find that out.
